Simple and affordable: $100 Defiant Wi-Fi Deadbolt review [Video]

The Defiant Wi-Fi Deadbolt, available at Home Depot for $100, offers an affordable solution for those seeking a smart deadbolt with Wi-Fi capabilities. The deadbolt is presented in various design options, allowing users to choose between round or square shapes and finishes such as matte black, aged bronze, or satin nickel. The installation process is designed to be straightforward for doors with existing deadbolt holes, with a template provided for new installations. A detailed printed guide and an installation video are also available to assist users. The latch backset is adjustable from 2 ⅜ inches to 2 ¾ inches, accommodating different door depths. While the deadbolt itself does not include batteries, it requires four AA batteries for operation. The device connects to Wi-Fi through an included Hubspace smart plug, which needs to be positioned relatively close to the lock. The setup involves downloading the Hubspace app and following its instructions. Although scanning the QR code for setup initially posed some difficulty, pressing and holding the “sync” button on the interior assembly successfully initiated the process. Following a brief setup sequence involving the lock and unlock mechanisms, the deadbolt becomes operational and manageable via the Hubspace app. Within the Hubspace app, users can customize the lock's name, assign it to a specific room, check its status, and remotely control the lock and unlock functions. The deadbolt features a number pad on its exterior with a lock button and a status indicator light. Users can enter an access code to unlock the door or press the lock icon to secure it. Access codes are configurable through the Hubspace app, allowing for a master code and additional unique codes for other users, which can be set for indefinite use or a limited number of times. A vacation mode feature is also included, which disables all secondary codes, leaving only the master code active. For manual operation, two physical keys are provided. Notification alerts for locking and unlocking events are sent to the user's smartphone, typically appearing within two to four seconds on an iPhone. The Defiant Wi-Fi Deadbolt is positioned competitively in the market, particularly given its $100 price point. While more expensive alternatives like Lockly smart deadbolts offer advanced features such as fingerprint readers or integrated video doorbells, the Defiant model delivers essential Wi-Fi connectivity without unnecessary complexity. For those prioritizing cost-effectiveness, non-Wi-Fi Defiant models are available for approximately $50. The deadbolt's construction is noted for its quality, with responsive hardware and app functionality, suggesting a premium experience for its price. The product is recommended as an easy-to-use and affordable option, especially for individuals seeking smart home integration during the holiday season. #DefiantWi-FiDeadbolt #SmartHome #HomeSecurity #ProductReview #HomeDepot #HubspaceApp #DIYInstallation #DefiantWi-FiDeadbolt #SmartHome #HomeSecurity #ProductReview #HomeDepot #HubspaceApp #DIYInstallation
