The Air Collection: A Playful, Sustainable Family of Outdoor Furniture
The Air Collection, a collaborative effort between Landscape Forms and Escofet, introduces a new line of outdoor furniture designed with a focus on lightness, playfulness, and sustainability. This collection challenges conventional perceptions of outdoor furniture by utilizing recyclable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with hollow interiors, resulting in pieces that are visually substantial yet remarkably lightweight and versatile. The choice of rotomolded HDPE makes the furniture hard, rigid, resilient, and resistant to weathering, ensuring durability for both outdoor and indoor applications.
Robb Smalldon, President of Site Furnishings & Structure at Landscape Forms, highlights that the Air Collection injects a modern, vibrant energy into spaces through its bold colors and innovative construction. Traditionally, forms of this nature would necessitate heavy materials like concrete, but the hollow HDPE construction allows for these striking showpieces to be specified for a broader range of settings and uses. This material innovation is central to the collection's ability to combine aesthetic appeal with practical functionality.
The collection comprises five distinct forms, each with its unique characteristics while maintaining cohesion as a family of furniture. Extasi Air features a low, backless bench with a rounded triangular form, offering clean lines. Fortunato Air provides modular seating options, including a rounded cube, rectangle, and back modules, enabling flexible configurations. Starfish Air introduces a biomorphic, asymmetrical design, adding an organic touch. Stul Air is a multifunctional piece that can serve as a stool, a side table, or a complementary element to other items in the collection. Twig Air is a modular, branching bench system designed to encourage social connection and interaction.
Kirt Martin, Chief Creative Officer at Landscape Forms, emphasizes that the Air Collection signifies a new design spirit for the company, characterized by its bright and playful aesthetic. This approach aims to broaden the perception of Landscape Forms' work and its applicability in various settings. Furthermore, Martin underscores the collection as a prime example of the company's active exploration of new materials, manufacturing processes, and aesthetic concepts, all of which align with their ongoing commitment to sustainability. The use of recyclable HDPE not only contributes to the lightweight nature of the furniture but also supports environmental responsibility, making the Air Collection a forward-thinking solution for contemporary outdoor and indoor spaces.
