At this young couple's home in Bengaluru, a neutral palette is paired with pops of colour
Architects Nidhi Agarwal and Rucha Joshi of Pune-based Staple Ink Studio designed a unique home in Bengaluru for a young couple, emphasizing a stylish, elegant, and calming environment. The design approach centered on a neutral color palette as a base, complemented by vibrant splashes of color. This balance creates a serene yet lively atmosphere throughout the residence.
In the living room, a neutral wall treatment provides a backdrop for an L-shaped grey couch. Texture is introduced through the wall treatment itself, and a coral-toned Terra Wall Sconce from Length Breadth Height adds a distinctive color accent. The designers incorporated natural materials, clean lines, and minimal ornamentation, alongside indoor plants, to bring a sense of nature and organic freshness into the space.
The dining area is a highlight of the open-plan living and dining space, featuring a custom-made circular wooden dining table by Planks Furniture, Bengaluru, and a light fixture from Orange Tree, both contributing to a flavorful aesthetic. The open kitchen boasts powder-blue cabinets contrasted with a crisp white counter. A breakfast counter with two high-rise chairs serves as a sleek partition, functionally separating the kitchen from the living area without disrupting the open feel.
Moving to the bedrooms, the harmonious and earthy tones continue. One bedroom incorporates a sage-toned wooden wardrobe that visually contrasts with a black bed and rattan bedrest. A rose-colored panel behind the bed adds an artistic element, aligning with the room's earthy vibe, while a floral triptych from Studio Artemist serves as a focal point.
The second bedroom shifts focus from bold color interventions to patterns. Tropical wallpaper and a dark wooden frame adorn one wall, creating visual interest. This room is furnished with a wooden bed and a full-sized mirror, accented by an indoor plant. The en-suite bathroom features green tiles and black and white fittings, further balancing the home's overall color scheme. The intentional use of various shades of green contributes to a youthful feel within the neutral backdrop.
The architects highlight the color palette as the most notable aspect of the project, crediting it with creating a sense of richness. They also aimed for a comfortable tension in the placement of objects and elements, ensuring that each room maintains character without feeling empty. The result is a residence that combines contemporary design with timeless appeal, exuding an inviting charm through its striking yet balanced use of contrasting colors and natural elements.
