On the Rise: We Love Otto Studio’s Colourful, Removable Wallpaper

Otto Studio, a Vancouver-based company founded in 2022 by Jen Cook and Hannah Lee, specializes in colorful, removable wallpaper designed to add vibrancy and personality to home interiors. The founders believe that home spaces significantly influence mental health and mood, advocating for the use of colors that resonate with individuals. This philosophy counters the prevalence of neutral, often grey, interiors observed by younger generations, particularly millennials and Gen Z, who are increasingly seeking fun, energy, and color in their clothing and living spaces. The success of Otto Studio is partly attributed to the "dopamine dressing" trend, where wearing beloved clothes can enhance mood, a concept extended to interior design through their vibrant wallpaper collections. Otto Studio's product range includes various patterns, from whimsical florals to rainbow pixels and psychedelic squiggles, appealing to a broad aesthetic preference. Jen Cook is responsible for designing the products, occasionally collaborating with other creatives like local artist Tierney Milne and NYC-based designer Zoe Schlacter for capsule collections. The wallpaper is sold in two-foot-wide rolls, with vertical length options of five, nine, or twelve feet, and is printed in Langley. A key feature of Otto Studio's wallpaper is its renter-friendly nature; it is a super-thick, low-tack product engineered to peel off cleanly without damaging the underlying paint, making it an ideal non-permanent wallcovering solution. Cook's graphic design background, heavily influenced by the Bauhaus philosophy and particularly by women artists of the movement such as German textile artist Anni Albers, informs the aesthetic of Otto Studio's offerings. Additionally, retro 1970s patterns and pop art elements are significant inspirations in their portfolio. For individuals hesitant about committing to an entire wall of bold patterns, Otto Studio also provides more subtle alternatives like wall decals and border frames, which offer an understated splash of color. This versatility caters to both renters and homeowners, as well as those who prefer a more daring or discreet approach to home decoration. The company aims to infuse a sunny and cheerful ambiance into Vancouver homes throughout the year, offering a creative and non-committal way to personalize living spaces. This article was originally featured in the July/August 2023 print issue of Vancouver magazine. The company's innovative approach addresses the growing demand for flexible and expressive home decor options, especially among demographics living in rental properties or those who frequently change their interior aesthetics. Otto Studio distinguishes itself by combining artistic design with practical, non-damaging application, empowering individuals to transform their environments with ease and confidence. The brand's focus on mood-boosting colors and designs aligns with contemporary trends that prioritize personal well-being and self-expression in residential settings. #HomeDecor #RemovableWallpaper #OttoStudio #VancouverDesign #RenterFriendly #InteriorDesign #ColorfulInteriors #BauhausInfluence #DopamineDecor #HomeDecor #RemovableWallpaper #OttoStudio #VancouverDesign #RenterFriendly #InteriorDesign #ColorfulInteriors #BauhausInfluence #DopamineDecor
