Tempaper Removable Wallpaper Product Review
This article details the process and experience of transforming a home office using removable wallpaper from Tempaper. The author and their boyfriend, both working from home, decided to renovate their previously neglected third bedroom, which served as a storage area, into a functional and aesthetically pleasing workspace. The choice of removable wallpaper was motivated by the desire for bold design elements without permanent changes, catering to potential future home buyers and renters.
The author began by researching numerous wallpaper designs and colors, eventually selecting a vintage-inspired jungle print from Tempaper due to its affordability and the availability of extra-large rolls, which reduced the total quantity needed. For proper estimation, understanding the square footage of the walls is crucial, with a recommendation to purchase more than initially calculated, especially for patterns that require vertical alignment. The specific wall covered measured 8 feet tall by 11.5 feet wide, requiring 92 square feet of wallpaper, for which two double rolls (120 square feet total) were purchased, leaving about 16 square feet remaining.
During the application process, five strips, each two feet wide, were cut from the two rolls. It was found that a grid-patterned cutting mat and a right-angle measuring tool were invaluable for ensuring straight cuts, as precise alignment is critical to avoid a crooked pattern. Each strip was trimmed to be a few inches longer than the wall's height, with excess trimmed after application using a straight-edge knife.
The installation presented challenges, taking approximately four hours. Issues encountered included the wallpaper stretching lengthwise during application, making pattern alignment difficult, and the persistence of air bubbles despite using a squeegee. Solutions discovered through trial and error involved using painter's tape to temporarily adhere panels to the wall before fully sticking them, which helped prevent stretching and simplified alignment. Additionally, using hands instead of a squeegee proved more effective in smoothing out air bubbles. Despite minor imperfections in alignment and some bubbles, the busy pattern made these issues unnoticeable.
The overall transformation of the home office was significant, achieved for under $200. The bold accent wall eliminated the need for extensive additional decor, apart from painting other walls white and rearranging furniture. A month post-application, the wallpaper showed no signs of peeling or curling. The author considered using Tempaper for another room, suggesting that a simpler, non-aligning pattern would likely expedite the process next time. The removability feature was tested and confirmed to be easy, leaving no residue or wall damage, though reusability for another wall was questionable due to reduced adhesiveness. While more expensive than paint, Tempaper offered an affordable option for its size and quality compared to other brands, with prices ranging from $1.10 per square foot for the selected design to significantly higher for designer options. The author highly recommends removable wallpaper for a substantial home upgrade without permanent alterations, particularly for those who desire aesthetic changes without the commitment.
