Luxury Hotels in Italy All Use These Sheets—And Now You Can Get Them Too
The author shares their personal journey to finding high-quality, comfortable bed sheets, emphasizing the importance of sleep quality given that a significant portion of life is spent in bed. Having tried numerous sheet sets that either pilled, lacked cooling properties, or deteriorated quickly, the author sought to recreate the luxurious hotel bed experience at home with durable sheets. The search led to the brand Frette, a company known for supplying linens to top hotels since 1899.
The author's discovery of Frette began during a vacation in Italy in August 2021. After an exceptionally comfortable night's sleep in a hotel, the author identified Frette as the brand responsible for the silky soft sheets. Research revealed that Frette linens are used in over 100 five-star hotels across Italy, including prestigious establishments like Le Sirenuse, Four Seasons Hotel Milano, and The St. Regis. These linens are crafted from 100 percent long-staple cotton, providing a fresh, light, and crisp feel, which the author likened to sleeping on a silk cloud without any unwanted sliding.
Impressed by the quality and comfort, the author ordered items from Frette's Lux Percalle collection and the H by Frette range to their home in Texas while still on the trip. The products arrived promptly, complete with luxurious packaging and reusable storage bags. Acknowledging the higher price point compared to previously owned sheets, the author justified the investment by expecting the Frette linens to last significantly longer, potentially over a decade with proper care.
The Lux Percalle Sheet Set, typically priced at $525, was available for under $300 at the time of purchase. For a more budget-friendly option, the Percale Simple Sheet Set, priced around $150 for a queen size, was also mentioned. The primary distinction noted between these two sets was the stitching detail and color options: the Lux Percalle features hemstitch finishing and comes in white and ivory, while the Percale Simple Sheet Set has simpler stitching and is only available in white. Despite these differences, both collections were found to be equally soft and comfortable.
Prior to Frette, the author had used Casaluna sheets from Target but found Frette to offer a superior level of comfort, effectively bringing the hotel experience into their bedroom. The sheets are praised for their smooth, breathable, and lightweight cotton, as well as their resistance to wrinkles, pilling, discoloration, and tearing after nearly two years of use. Frette sheets can be purchased directly from the brand or through Amazon for quicker delivery, confirming their value as a worthwhile investment for quality sleep.
