How to create the coziest of outdoor spaces this fall, according to North Texas experts

With cooler weather approaching, creating inviting outdoor spaces becomes a priority for many homeowners. Landscape designer Glenn Bonick emphasizes the importance of a heat element, such as a fire pit, built-in fireplace, or a heater, to enhance the outdoor ambiance as temperatures drop. Bonick highlights the aesthetic appeal of a built-in fireplace, noting its ability to define a space and create a room-like feel, often serving as a focal point for entertaining, such as mounting a television above it. However, he also acknowledges the drawbacks, including the significant cost, complex installation requirements, and limited heat distribution, as heat tends to radiate upwards rather than outwards. In contrast, fire pits offer a more utilitarian and intimate heating solution. Bonick explains that fire pits allow people to gather closer to the flame, maximizing warmth. He differentiates between gas and wood-burning fire pits, noting that while wood-burning options are more accessible for immediate use, gas fire pits offer a cleaner, smokeless flame and require less effort to maintain and extinguish. A key advantage of fire pits is their versatility in placement, allowing them to be situated in various parts of the yard, including remote areas, to create a more immersive natural experience. For those seeking practical and efficient heating, outdoor heaters, particularly infrared models, are recommended. Bonick suggests portable freestanding heaters for flexibility around dining tables and ceiling-mounted electric or gas heating panels for broader heat distribution across a patio. Infrared heaters, such as those from Infratech, are highlighted for their ability to warm a large area effectively, their silent operation, and their eco-friendly design, producing no harmful emissions or odors. These options cater to different needs, from casual dining to extensive patio warmth. Beyond heating solutions, interior designer Kara Adam provides additional tips for fall patio enhancements. She recommends incorporating glowing, portable orb lights to create a magical and diffused ambiance around pools or gardens. Adam also stresses the importance of layering textiles, such as switching from lighter fabrics to heavier knits or wool throws, to add warmth and coziness to outdoor seating areas, making breezy evenings more enjoyable. Functional and stylish additions like indoor-outdoor bar carts are suggested to promote hospitality and provide convenient surfaces for drinks, turning any gathering into a special event. Finally, high-top tables are proposed as a way to naturally bring people together for cocktails or casual conversations, adding dimension to outdoor vignettes. These expert recommendations aim to help homeowners transition their outdoor living spaces for comfortable and enjoyable fall use. #PatioDesign #OutdoorLiving #FallDecor #FirePits #OutdoorHeaters #HomeDecor #LandscapeDesign #OutdoorLighting #TextileLayering #PatioDesign #OutdoorLiving #FallDecor #FirePits #OutdoorHeaters #HomeDecor #LandscapeDesign #OutdoorLighting #TextileLayering
