Walk-In Closet Design
This blog post details the process and considerations involved in designing a functional and aesthetically pleasing walk-in closet. The author, having lived in a new-build home for nearly three years, decided to undertake a closet renovation due to the existing dysfunctional storage system, which led to a reluctance to organize clothes. The initial tight budget when moving into the new home meant that a custom walk-in closet was deferred, allowing time to observe actual usage and needs.
The author and her husband decided to invest in a custom closet design, opting for Inspired Closets DFW. Their designer, Anastasia, spent two days meticulously measuring the closet space, inventorying clothes, and understanding their lifestyle to create a personalized solution. A key principle emphasized by the designer was to create a closet that caters to how one actually lives rather than an idealized, magazine-style space that may not be practical.
The new design features three large sections along the back wall. The author's side will include ample hanging space and, significantly, large drawers underneath for folded items, ensuring visibility and easy access. Her husband will take the left side, and both will benefit from increased drawer space and designated shoe storage. A specific highlight for the author is a dedicated area for folding and displaying knitwear, particularly useful during the fall and winter seasons.
The article includes renderings of the proposed walk-in closet design, illustrating the layout and various storage components. These renderings provide a visual representation of the planned changes, showcasing the integration of hanging rods, shelves, and drawers tailored to their specific requirements. The goal of this redesign is to transform a problematic space into an organized, efficient, and beautiful area that simplifies their daily routine and encourages consistent organization.
