Soho House Mumbai references traditional Indian textiles

Soho House has launched its first location in Asia, Soho House Mumbai, featuring interiors that draw inspiration from India's rich textile traditions and local craftsmanship. The club is situated in a renovated 11-story building within Mumbai's affluent Juhu neighborhood, a residential area popular with Bollywood celebrities. The design, spearheaded by the brand's in-house team, incorporates locally sourced fixtures and soft furnishings, alongside traditional Indian patterns, to create an authentic representation of Indian culture. Linda Boronkay, Soho House's design director, emphasized that the objective was to offer an aesthetic that genuinely reflects India through its color schemes and material choices, catering to a well-traveled and curious clientele interested in the local culture of the cities they visit. The design philosophy aims for each Soho House to embody the social, historical, and cultural essence of its location. Soho House Mumbai is the third property opened by the hospitality brand in the current year, following Soho House White City in London, which pays homage to its former BBC headquarters building, and Soho House Amsterdam, which draws on the color palettes of Dutch Master paintings. A distinctive feature, consistent with other Soho House properties, is the rooftop pool. The Mumbai terrace, overlooking Juhu Beach, is adorned with traditional Indian cement tiles and furnished with cane chairs crafted by local artisans, alongside large daybeds shaded by striped awnings. The members' main lounge area is located on the eighth floor, characterized by sage green walls, dark teak floorboards, and cut-glass chandeliers. Vibrant vermilion velvet sofas and a curated collection of artworks by South East Asian artists add bold accents of color. On the first floor, a cinema boasts padded walls upholstered with textiles hand-printed in India's Rajasthan region. The ground floor hosts two public dining establishments: Cecconi's, an Italian restaurant decorated with potted plants, and The Allis, a more casual cafe featuring decorative ceramic tiles. This blend of member and public access to food and beverage options is intended to foster community engagement and bring a dynamic energy to the spaces. Guest suites, located on the third through seventh floors, are furnished with four-poster beds, bone inlay side tables, wheat-colored sisal carpets, and lampshades fashioned from vintage saris. This meticulous attention to detail in material selection and design elements reinforces the club's commitment to reflecting local traditions and aesthetics. The interior design successfully integrates contemporary comfort with a strong sense of place, offering a unique experience that celebrates Indian heritage. #SohoHouse #Mumbai #India #InteriorDesign #Textiles #MembersClubs #HospitalityDesign #LindaBoronkay #BoutiqueHotel #CulturalHeritage #SohoHouse #Mumbai #India #InteriorDesign #Textiles #MembersClubs #HospitalityDesign #LindaBoronkay #BoutiqueHotel #CulturalHeritage
