TASCO Plumbing & Mechanical: Focus on Efficiency, Reliability
TASCO Plumbing & Mechanical, a commercial contractor based in Miami, has achieved success by prioritizing efficiency and reliability in its plumbing systems. Owner and Manager Carlos Pajon, who started in the plumbing and construction industry as a teenager, founded TASCO in 1990 with a commitment to delivering superior plumbing solutions. The company specializes in heavy commercial work and multi-story buildings, and has also completed projects for hospitals, condominiums, and industrial facilities.
Plumbing in Florida presents unique challenges, particularly due to the persistent issues of flooding and water leaks, which can lead to significant property damage and negatively impact a professional's reputation. To address these challenges and mitigate risks, Pajon sought more reliable solutions than traditional pipe installation methods. His research led him to F1960 expansion fittings and PEX-a pipe, which he identified as key to preventing water leaks. PEX-a pipe installation uses a simple handheld tool to expand the pipe and an expansion ring before inserting a fitting, making dry-fitting impossible and significantly reducing the risk of blowoffs. This method also eliminates the need for additional tools, materials, or heat for connections, enhancing productivity without compromising quality.
Pajon's experience with PEX-a pipe began in 2008, leading him to appreciate the importance of a manufacturer's internal and external quality testing, as well as the value of comprehensive warranties when using PEX-a pipe, expansion rings, and fittings as a complete system. On a recent project, TASCO successfully allayed a general contractor's concerns about water damage from blowoffs by demonstrating the effectiveness of PEX-a expansion fittings. Both TASCO and the general contractor were highly satisfied with the project's outcome, reinforcing Pajon's belief in the product's reliability.
To further enhance efficiency and organization across its diverse projects, TASCO has implemented kitting services from PEX-a manufacturer Uponor. Kitting involves pre-packaging all necessary fittings, rings, multiports, and accessories for each individual unit, clearly labeled and ready for delivery to the project site. This streamlined approach saves project managers considerable time and energy by simplifying product management and reducing confusion for installers. Pajon noted that this service allows his team to focus on more critical tasks while Uponor handles the kitting process, contributing to a more structured and less chaotic project timeline.
An example of a project that benefited from kitting was Wynwood Diamedix in Miami's Wynwood Arts District. This two-tower development featured 304 residential units, extensive amenities, and significant commercial and office spaces. For this project, Pajon opted for PEX-a pipe with a Logic design incorporating multiport tees to ensure efficient water delivery. Given the variety of residential unit sizes, from studios to three-bedroom floorplans, kitting proved invaluable in simplifying the installation process for the diverse units. Pajon remains confident that his business thrives on providing high-quality PEX-a products, supported by a 25-year warranty, design assistance, and value-added services like kitting, and he anticipates future opportunities to advance the construction industry in South Florida.
