Arik Levy breezes through Dice Kayek’s pop-up with a wind-powered installation

This blog post details an art installation created by industrial designer Arik Levy for the Paris fashion label Dice Kayek's pop-up boutique. The installation, titled 'FractalWind' and 'FacetFormation,' was unveiled in October 2016 at Galerie Catherine Houard in Paris. It coincided with fashion week and then transitioned to attract the art crowd during FIAC, demonstrating an intersection of fashion and art. The 'FractalWind' component of the installation features two clusters of LED lights. These lights are suspended from a wooden frame and are designed to move and 'jostle' as a result of a gentle breeze. This breeze is generated by standard desk fans strategically placed behind the light clusters, creating a kinetic and dynamic visual experience. The movement of the lights contributes to the overall atmospheric quality of the installation, transforming the space into something more fluid and boundless. Positioned in the center of these two light clusters is 'FacetFormation.' This sculpture is composed of interlocking discs made from wood and plaster. Levy describes 'FacetFormation' as benefiting from the light movement of 'FractalWind,' which highlights its various facets and dynamic spatial qualities. The interplay between the moving lights and the static, yet multifaceted, sculpture aims to create an immersive environment that challenges traditional perceptions of enclosed spaces. This collaboration between Arik Levy and Dice Kayek marks their second joint project. Their first partnership was in 2010, for an installation named 'Log Forest,' which was part of Dice Kayek's 'Istanbul Contrast' show held at Istanbul Modern. This history of collaboration suggests a shared artistic vision and a mutual appreciation for combining design and art in innovative ways. The current installation further solidifies this creative partnership by integrating a visual artist's work into a fashion retail space, attracting a diverse audience from both the fashion and art worlds. The installation aims to be more than just a display; it's an experience that encourages viewers to perceive the space differently. Levy's intention to create a space without traditional walls or boundaries through the movement and light of his artwork suggests an exploration of fluidity and illusion. The use of everyday objects like desk fans to achieve complex kinetic effects highlights a clever approach to art creation, blending industrial design principles with artistic expression. Ali Morris, a UK-based editor, writer, and creative consultant specializing in design, interiors, and architecture, reported on this installation. Her background in covering creative projects, products, places, and people for various design-focused publications, including Wallpaper* and Dezeen, lends credibility to the article's insights into the art and design world. The article highlights the innovative spirit of both the artist and the fashion brand in utilizing a pop-up store as a venue for a multi-sensory artistic experience. #ArikLevy #DiceKayek #ArtInstallation #GalerieCatherineHouard #ParisFashionWeek #FIAC #KineticArt #IndustrialDesign #FashionAndArt #Sculpture #ArikLevy #DiceKayek #ArtInstallation #GalerieCatherineHouard #ParisFashionWeek #FIAC #KineticArt #IndustrialDesign #FashionAndArt #Sculpture
