GreenRow's New Pillow Covers Are Just What You Need for a Spring Home Refresh
Williams-Sonoma, Inc. has launched GreenRow, its first major brand in over a decade, focusing on sustainable home decor and furniture with a vibrant, vintage-inspired aesthetic. This new collection deviates from the typically neutral or minimalist approach often seen in eco-friendly home brands, opting instead for bright colors and detailed patterns. The initial assortment from GreenRow encompasses a wide range of products, including living room, bedroom, and dining furniture, as well as handcrafted rugs, bedding, curtains, table linens, and lighting.
Jaimee Seabury, Williams-Sonoma’s vice president of strategy and business development, highlighted the brand's commitment to heirloom-quality pieces and responsible manufacturing practices. Seabury traveled extensively, visiting various countries like India, Turkey, Portugal, and Guatemala, not only for design inspiration but also to identify farms and artisans who could contribute to GreenRow's sustainable vision. The brand prioritizes the use of low-impact materials throughout its production process, extending even to innovative packaging solutions. Additionally, GreenRow employs methods to minimize waste, such as repurposing leftover fabric from ottomans to create upholstery for stools.
A key distinguishing feature of GreenRow is its embrace of color and pattern, in contrast to the more subdued palettes common in sustainable home furnishings. Seabury noted that the vibrant color scheme of the collection was initially inspired by rugs sourced from India. The brand is committed to using non-toxic dyes, which consume less water, and vegetable dyes for its rugs whenever feasible, addressing environmental concerns associated with traditional dyeing processes. While these responsible practices and high-quality materials may result in a higher price point, GreenRow emphasizes that its products are designed for durability and longevity, offering customers lasting value.
To further solidify its dedication to sustainability and ethical production, GreenRow has aligned itself with industry-leading standards and partnered with third-party organizations for product certification. These partnerships include Textile Exchange’s Global Recycling Standard, which focuses on recycled content; Fair Trade USA, ensuring fair labor practices; and Nest’s Ethical Handcraft Program, which supports the well-being of artisans. These collaborations underscore GreenRow's comprehensive approach to sustainability, encompassing material sourcing, manufacturing processes, and social responsibility, aiming to create products that are both aesthetically appealing and environmentally conscious.
