One could say it all started at the Lanesborough Hotel. As kismet would have it, London’s famed Library Bar had caught the respective eyes of interior designer Justine Macfee as well as San Francisco homeowner Stephanie Mellin, who wanted to retain her Edwardian’s traditional feel and layout after a renovation to the Presidio Heights home where she and her husband, Bill Mellin, have lived for the last three decades and raised three children. The inspired result — a living room with wraparound woodwork hand-painted on site by Willem Racké, reupholstered velvet sofas, a hand-forged iron coffee table and existing French antiques — captures both a completed design vision and a jumping-off point.
