Polynesian Bora Bora Bungalows Review
The Bora Bora Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are reviewed, highlighting their status as the latest Disney Vacation Club villas and their high cost. The author acknowledges that the bungalows are often seen as controversial due to their premium pricing, with a nightly rate exceeding $2,000, which is significantly more than similar accommodations in actual Bora Bora. Despite being Disney Vacation Club owners, the author personally couldn't justify the expense and only had the opportunity to stay through a friend's invitation, framing it as 'research'.
The review begins by discussing the bungalow's amenities, including a TV integrated into the master bathroom mirror, and a washer and dryer unit. The master bedroom is described as having a 'refined beach house' style with high-quality, tropical-themed finishes and subtle Disney nods. The design successfully combines a Tommy Bahama Home aesthetic with Disney elements, creating a well-executed and luxurious atmosphere. The master bathroom, with its integrated TV and quality fixtures, is also praised.
The second bedroom, located on the land-facing side, features a more whimsical and colorful design, aiming for a fun retro vibe. While the color scheme was divisive among the author's group, the author personally found it well-managed and not gaudy. A notable detail is a surfboard decoration bearing the inscription '7 Seas Surf Co.'. The second bathroom is described as having a split layout, with a shower/tub combination unlike the master bathroom's separate facilities.
The living room and kitchen area are identified as a major selling point, ideal for family gatherings. The styling in this common area is also appreciated for its laid-back, retro-inspired island theme, maintaining the Polynesian resort's expected aesthetic and feeling high-quality. A pull-down bed features artwork of the Electrical Water Pageant, a detail that the author commends. Outdoor features include hanging chairs and a plunge pool on the deck. The hanging chairs are found to be fun but impractical for prolonged relaxation, while the plunge pool is deemed largely for aesthetic appeal rather than practical use, comparing it to 'tepid bathwater'.
The author ultimately enjoyed the bungalows' style and found them a pleasant place to socialize, but the high cost remained a significant deterrent. From a value-for-money perspective, the bungalows do not meet expectations, with the author suggesting that two studio rooms would offer a comparable experience for less. The review targets 'commoners' curious about the bungalows, acknowledging that the target demographic ('whales' in the DVC community) are unlikely to be concerned with cost or value.
A significant portion of the review details a negative guest service experience during the stay. Issues included a delayed room check-in without proper notification, and a complete water outage for several hours the following morning. Despite proactive attempts to resolve the water issue, the author and their group felt that the hotel staff's response was inadequate, lacking proactivity and communication. They received bottled water only after explicitly asking, and were offered a studio for showering only after making a direct request at the front desk. No apologies or explanations were offered until the group's friend complained at check-out. The manager at check-out responded well, refunding DVC points for the day of inconvenience and offering FastPass+ for the party. This experience, however, highlighted a perceived policy of addressing issues only after guest complaints, rather than proactively. Despite these service shortcomings, the author still enjoyed the bungalows but cautions that other Grand Villas might offer similar enjoyment at a lower cost, advising potential guests to speak up if service issues arise.
