Chemical engineer insists a kitchen staple removes all water stains from shower doors - only a teaspoon is needed

A chemical engineer has revealed an effective and inexpensive method to eliminate stubborn water stains from shower doors using a common kitchen staple. The cleaning professional, Diego Fernández, explains that traditional cleaning products often fail because they only address one component of the stains. Shower door stains are composed of two main types of dirt: inorganic limescale and organic residue. Limescale is a hard, white crust formed by mineral deposits (calcium and magnesium) from evaporated water, while organic residue consists of soap, shampoo, and body oils, which combine to create a greasy compound known as stearate. Fernández highlights that most conventional cleaners are adept at removing the organic component but are largely ineffective against the inorganic limescale. To successfully tackle both, a solution must incorporate an acid to dissolve mineral crusts and a surfactant to cut through grease. He recommends a simple homemade solution consisting of one teaspoon of liquid dish soap diluted in 500ml of hot water, prepared in a spray bottle. This mixture combines the degreasing properties of dish soap (a surfactant) with the necessary acidic component, which can be provided by cleaning vinegar or industrial vinegar. For optimal results, the cleaning process involves a few steps. First, the shower glass should be thoroughly cleaned with a sponge to remove any existing grease. Following this, a mild acid, such as cleaning vinegar, should be applied to the glass. Finally, the homemade solution of hot water and liquid dish soap can be sprayed onto the surface. After application, the glass should be cleaned and then dried with a microfiber cloth to prevent the formation of new marks or streaks. This method is touted as a comprehensive approach that addresses both the mineral and organic aspects of shower stains. The article also touches upon other general cleaning tips and tools. One cleaning enthusiast shared a bedtime routine involving a commercial mop bucket and mop with fresh, soapy water to clean floors in just 15 minutes, preventing stained socks and dog hair. Another home improvement expert recommended spraying glass cleaner onto a lint-free microfiber cloth rather than directly onto windows to avoid streaks. Additionally, a popular YouTuber demonstrated a technique for hard water stains on windows, starting by splashing water on the glass to rinse away loose debris like hair before applying a DIY vinegar mix (white vinegar, water, and a tablespoon of dish soap) for moderately dirty glass shower doors or as a regular maintenance cleaner. The effectiveness of these methods lies in understanding the nature of the stains and applying appropriate chemical principles to dissolve and remove them. #CleaningHacks #ShowerCleaning #WaterStains #DIYCleaning #HouseholdTips #ChemicalEngineering #LimescaleRemoval #OrganicResidue #CleaningHacks #ShowerCleaning #WaterStains #DIYCleaning #HouseholdTips #ChemicalEngineering #LimescaleRemoval #OrganicResidue
