Dyson Just Dropped Six New Products, Including A Wet Vacuum And A New Robot Vacuum
Dyson has unveiled a new lineup of six home products, marking a significant expansion in its core categories of vacuums and air purifiers. This launch includes upgraded cordless vacuums, advanced air purifiers, and a new robot vacuum, signaling a new era for the company in 2023. This release follows closely on the heels of the Dyson Airstrait, a wet-to-dry hair straightener, indicating a period of rapid innovation for the brand. Unlike Dyson's typical quiet, staggered product releases, this launch is a comprehensive introduction of multiple new devices.
The most notable re-entry for Dyson is in the robot vacuum market with the introduction of the Dyson 360 Vis Nav. This comes after a hiatus since the 2016 Dyson 360 Eye and the 2020 Dyson 360 Heurist, which was not released in the U.S. The 360 Vis Nav features a distinctive D-shaped design, similar to models like the Roomba s9 and Samsung Jet Bot AI+, which is engineered to improve corner cleaning compared to traditional round robot vacuums. It is equipped with advanced sensors that detect room edges, allowing it to clean within three inches of walls and redirect suction for precise corner cleaning. The roller brush spans the entire width of the vacuum for complete path coverage. Dyson claims the 360 Vis Nav possesses twice the suction power of any other robot vacuum on the market, utilizing internal piezo sensors to detect and categorize dust particles, adjusting suction power accordingly. The device incorporates Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) navigation technology and a hemispheric camera for spatial awareness. Details regarding its home mapping capabilities, restriction zone settings, pricing, and release date are yet to be announced, but the previous 360 Eye retailed for $999 in 2016.
In the realm of cordless upright vacuums, Dyson introduces the Submarine, a wet roller head attachment. This innovative attachment features two water tanks, one for clean water and one for dirty water, and a motor-driven microfiber brush designed for cleaning spills, stains, and small debris on hard floors. The Submarine cleaning head will be exclusively available with the new V15s Detect Submarine vacuum and is not compatible with existing Dyson vacuum models. Additionally, two new dry sweeping cordless vacuums, the Gen5detect and Gen5outsize, have been launched. Both models boast Dyson's fifth-generation Hyperdymium motor, offering enhanced suction power. They come with an upgraded Fluffy Optic cleaner head, which provides a brighter dust-illuminating laser than previous models like the V12 Detect Slim. These new machines also feature a fully-sealed HEPA filtration system, using 14 cyclones to remove dust from the airflow without compromising suction. The Gen5detect and Gen5outsize are priced at $949 and $1,049, respectively, and became available in the U.S. on June 6, positioning them as the priciest options in Dyson's cordless vacuum range.
Finally, Dyson has released new air purifiers, notably the Big+Quiet Formaldehyde. This model is designed for powerful yet quiet operation, operating at a maximum of 56 decibels. It departs from the traditional cylindrical hollow design with a new body incorporating "Cone Aerodynamics," enabling it to project purified air up to 32 feet away. A new CO2 sensor monitors ventilation, and a Catalytic filter is integrated to detect and break down formaldehyde in the home environment, a feature seen in some of Dyson's earlier purifying fans. An alternative version, the Dyson Purifier HEPA Big+Quiet Formaldehyde, is also available for commercial and shared spaces. Pricing for these air purifiers has not yet been confirmed, but Dyson's existing formaldehyde-treating purifiers range between $689.99 and $939.99.
