ceramiche refin presents mendini-designed FILO tiles at CERSAIE 2014

Ceramiche Refin, a prominent Italian producer of quality porcelain tiles since 1962, consistently emphasizes aesthetic and technological innovation. The company invests significantly to offer original products that cater to a global clientele. Demonstrating its commitment to creativity, Ceramiche Refin established designtalestudio, a laboratory for material research and artistic experimentation. This studio engages various collaborators, including renowned designers and architects like Alessandro and Francesco Mendini, to foster new ideas within the company. The Mendini brothers have developed the 'FILO' collection, which features four distinct motifs. Each motif reinterprets a traditional orthogonal grid, distorting and resizing it to create an optical illusion with an almost three-dimensional quality. The designs consist of thin, rigid lines that interweave and cross, forming a matrix that is both geometric and abstract, reminiscent of the OpArt movement. These patterns are available in a large 75 x 75 cm format and come in four different colors, allowing for diverse and dynamic floor decorations when mixed and matched. Beyond the 'FILO' collection, the Mendini brothers' collaboration with Ceramiche Refin extends to other initiatives. In February 2014, designtalestudio and Ceramiche Refin launched an international design contest titled 'create your tile,' inviting professionals worldwide to submit proposals. Alessandro and Francesco Mendini served as chairmen of the jury for this competition. The contest sought innovative ceramic ideas for residential and commercial flooring, prioritizing originality, commercial viability, industrial reproducibility, and the effective use of modern production technologies to align with contemporary interior trends. The competition garnered over 800 submissions from 78 countries. Kasia Zareba was awarded first prize for her project, 'fossil.' The young Polish designer's winning concept draws inspiration from prehistoric imprints of plants and animals found on rock formations. The design features traces of patterns that break and overlap, mimicking the natural aging process seen in prehistoric and archaeological sites. The 'fossil' motif is a composition of five hand-drawn graphics that merge and disperse, creating intriguing optical illusions and solid-void effects. The overall appearance of 'fossil' resembles natural stone, offering a modern interpretation of marble. Available in five different patterns and a 60 x 60 cm format, 'fossil' comes in three colors: beige, grey, and brown, allowing for random arrangement. At CERSAIE 2014, the annual international exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings held from September 22-26th in Bologna, Italy, Alessandro and Francesco Mendini presented Kasia Zareba with her prize. Second and third prizes were awarded to 'papua' by Martha Luise Gütlinger and Moritz Köhler (Germany), and 'tiebelè' by Sarah Marinaro and Michela Schirinzi of microSTUDIO (Italy), respectively. Both the 'fossil' and 'FILO' collections were showcased at the designtalestudio CERSAIE stand (Hall 36, Stand B33), highlighting Ceramiche Refin's latest innovations and collaborations. #CeramicheRefin #MendiniBrothers #FILOTiles #CERSAIE2014 #PorcelainTiles #DesignTalentStudio #InteriorDesign #TileDesign #KasiaZareba #CeramicheRefin #MendiniBrothers #FILOTiles #CERSAIE2014 #PorcelainTiles #DesignTalentStudio #InteriorDesign #TileDesign #KasiaZareba
