Tristan Auer designs Blade Runner-inspired bathroom for Axor
Architect Tristan Auer has developed a neon-lit bathroom concept for Axor, drawing inspiration from the aesthetic of the film Blade Runner. This design is part of Axor's Distinctive project, which invites prominent architects to create unique and highly individualized bathroom spaces. Auer was given creative freedom for the project, with a brief suggesting a high-rise apartment setting in Hong Kong, which immediately brought to mind the futuristic and layered cityscape depicted in Blade Runner. He envisioned the bathroom for an imagined male client, emphasizing a luxurious and somewhat hedonistic personality.
The resulting bathroom design incorporates dark tones, reflective stainless steel elements, neon lighting, and a variety of travertine stones. Auer sought to create a masculine ambiance, enhanced by subtle references to 1980s design elements. He noted that the diamond-cut pyramidal pattern on Axor's Edge faucets, designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, reminded him of a vintage ST Dupont lighter, further shaping the narrative of his imagined client. This combination of modern and antique textures, along with the 'masculine' travertine, contributed to the detailed persona of the bathroom's user.
The concept integrates several Axor products with a polished gold optic finish, including the Axor Edge washbasin faucet, a freestanding bath faucet, the Axor ShowerHeaven, and an Axor Edge thermostat in the shower, alongside Philippe Starck's ultramodern Axor Universal rectangular accessories. These fixtures contribute to the space's bold, moodily space-age appearance. Auer, who describes himself as an "interior and emotion" architect, emphasizes his approach of understanding and interpreting clients' desires rather than imposing his own style. His background, having started his career with Christian Liaigre, instilled in him a deep understanding of bespoke design and artisan processes, leading him to believe that true luxury lies in individualized creations.
The Distinctive project by Axor underscores the brand's focus on individualization, a trend they identify as growing in response to decades of globalization and standardization. Auer, along with fellow architects Sarah Poniatowski and Hadi Teherani, has contributed to this project by crafting highly personalized bathroom concepts. This initiative highlights the desire for unique personal expressions within living spaces. The article concludes by inviting readers to explore more of Axor's products on their website, framing the content as a partnership between Dezeen and Axor.
