Interior designers share 6 bathroom trends that'll be huge this season and 4 that will be out

In the spring of 2023, bathroom design trends are shifting towards creating luxurious, personalized, and comfortable spaces, moving away from sterile, mass-produced aesthetics. Interior designers anticipate a continued rise in demand for spa-style bathrooms, characterized by amenities such as soaking tubs, heated floors, and rainfall showerheads. This focus is on transforming bathrooms into relaxing, at-home sanctuaries, prioritizing comfort and a sense of escape. Warm wood elements, particularly oak and walnut, are gaining significant traction. These natural materials are being integrated into vanities to infuse bathrooms with a modern, Japanese, or Scandinavian aesthetic. The use of slat and reeded wood fronts adds tactile appeal through their organic textures and curvilinear shapes. The versatility of these warmer tones allows them to complement both minimalist and maximalist design schemes, enhancing the overall warmth and inviting atmosphere of the space. Functionality and organization are also key, with hidden storage emerging as a necessity. In-drawer outlets are becoming essential for maintaining a clutter-free bathroom by providing discreet charging and storage solutions for items such as hair dryers, hot tools, electric toothbrushes, and razors. This trend emphasizes a streamlined and organized appearance, ensuring countertops remain clear and functional. Soft curves, specifically scalloped edges, are being introduced to soften the typically angular nature of bathrooms. These whimsical and gentle forms can be incorporated into custom vanities, rugs, Roman shades, lampshades, and even petal-shaped elements in sconces and chandeliers, contributing to a more restful and elegant ambiance. This departure from sharp lines helps create a more soothing and visually appealing environment. Another significant trend is the move towards unique, handcrafted elements. Homeowners are increasingly seeking artisan-style products to personalize their bathrooms and reflect their individual character. This involves replacing generic, mass-produced fixtures and finishes with bespoke pieces, such as colorful, patterned, and unique tiles, which celebrate the aesthetic of the handmade and add warmth and individuality to the space. Biophilic design, which incorporates living elements, is also blossoming as an extension of the wellness trend. Interior designers are increasingly bringing plants, such as eucalyptus, into bathrooms, not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their aromatic benefits, particularly in steam showers, to enhance the spa-like experience and connect the indoor space with nature. Conversely, several trends are seeing a decline. All-white bathrooms and shades of gray are fading in popularity. While these colors dominated for years, there is a clear return to incorporating color and pattern, with sterile white vanities and plain white subway tiles losing their appeal. Homeowners are now opting for more vibrant and personalized color palettes, especially in powder rooms, to create impactful and memorable spaces. Matte black fixtures and hardware, despite their previous popularity, are also losing their luster. Designers note that matte black can be challenging to clean, creates too much contrast, and doesn't always blend well with traditional marble tile choices. The preference is shifting towards more classic and enduring finishes like polished nickel or unlacquered brass, which are perceived to be more timeless and durable. Overly ornate designs, once considered a symbol of luxury, are falling out of favor. Intricately detailed faucets and fixtures are being replaced by sleek and modern designs that offer a more streamlined and clean aesthetic. This shift reflects a preference for simplicity and functionality over excessive embellishment, as ornate elements can be distracting and difficult to maintain. Finally, cheap tile knockoffs are being phased out. While traditional handmade tiles remain a classic choice, inexpensive alternatives available from big-box stores are considered boring, overdone, or tacky. The trend is moving towards high-quality options, including extra-large tiles, full porcelain slabs, or authentic hand-crafted mosaics and Zellige tiles, which offer superior aesthetic appeal and craftsmanship, ensuring a more sophisticated and lasting design. #BathroomTrends #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #SpaStyle #WarmWoods #HiddenStorage #ScallopedEdges #HandcraftedElements #BiophilicDesign #ColorTrends #FixtureFinishes #TileDesign #BathroomTrends #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #SpaStyle #WarmWoods #HiddenStorage #ScallopedEdges #HandcraftedElements #BiophilicDesign #ColorTrends #FixtureFinishes #TileDesign
