Artist Liz Collins, known for her textile-focused visual expressions, has unveiled her latest project, "Dynamic Expansion," at the Ligne Roset flagship in Manhattan's Flatiron District. This installation is a collaboration that merges art, craft, and design, showcasing Collins's new spring 2021 capsule fabric collection developed in partnership with Pollack and Sunbrella Contract. Collins, a former fashion designer and professor at the Rhode Island School of Design, has a history of exploring textiles through performance and installation, notably with her "Knitting Nation" series. Her connection to the design world solidified in 2013 when Pollack first invited her to contribute to their Makers Collection. Subsequently, Sunbrella commissioned a large-scale drapery project for its headquarters, designed by Tsao & McKown. Last year, Collins created an installation for Rosanna Orlandi’s design showroom in Milan to feature Sunbrella’s high-performance fabrics, where she incorporated Ligne Roset furniture, including Christian Werner’s Prado sofa. When Ligne Roset extended an invitation to collaborate again in New York, Collins enthusiastically accepted, aiming to design a complete fabric collection. Collins intended for the kinetic space to evoke a sense of wonder and visual stimulation, likening the experience to being in a cave, a galaxy, underwater, and on the ground simultaneously.
