How to feng shui your home: 8 ways to attract positive energy
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. It focuses on how to arrange things in a living space to create balance and attract positive energy, thus maximizing one's potential for success across all aspects of life. The term "feng shui" literally translates to "wind water," where wind scatters energy and water holds energy. This philosophy posits that homes are a reflection of their occupants; thus, any neglected part or negative energy within a home can manifest negatively in the occupant's life.
To apply feng shui principles, consider starting with the front door, which symbolizes wealth. Maintaining it in perfect condition and adorning it with a beautiful plant and light on either side can draw positive energy. For the hallway, which represents opportunities, it is crucial to keep it clutter-free to allow energy to circulate freely. Storing coats and shoes in closed cupboards prevents energy stagnation, while a mirror and fresh flowers can uplift the space's energy.
The kitchen is a vital area representing nourishment and relationship harmony. It is advised to avoid placing the sink and cooker directly opposite each other, as this creates a "water and fire crash" that can lead to arguments. Similarly, excessive use of black and red colors should be avoided for the same reason. The cooker's position is also important for the occupants' nourishment, ideally not under a window or directly opposite the kitchen or front door.
In the living room, furniture should be proportionate to the space, and no doors should be blocked. Positioning the main sofa against a wall provides support to the occupants. To activate wealth energy, a lamp should be placed in the corner of the room, diagonally opposite the door. The dining room, or dining table, is significant for mindful eating and relates to the spleen, which in traditional Chinese medicine is linked to digestion. Optimizing this space involves placing a mirror on the wall to reflect the dining table and adorning it with fresh flowers.
For the bedroom, light neutral colors are recommended to encourage restful sleep. Beds should have a headboard against a solid wall, and ideally, not be in line with the bedroom door. Bedside tables on either side provide support, and curvy lamps along with lightly fragranced candles can introduce romantic energy. The bathroom should always be kept clean with the door closed and toilet lid down, as it is an area where wealth may be drained. Introducing plants can help soak in water, thereby slowing the drainage of wealth.
Finally, the garden also plays a crucial role. The front garden represents the future and should be kept beautiful with planted flowers and plants, always tidy. The back garden symbolizes health and wealth, and thus must be maintained in good condition. Well-maintained boundaries, fences, or walls are essential to provide support to the occupants. These practices collectively aim to create a balanced and harmonious living environment that supports the well-being and success of its inhabitants.
