12 “Outdated” Bathroom Trends That Need To Go In 2025

Home design trends often cycle, and what was once popular can quickly become outdated. This article identifies twelve bathroom trends that are projected to be out of style by 2025, offering contemporary alternatives to ensure a modern and appealing space, especially for those considering a home renovation or resale. The overarching theme emphasizes a shift from stark, sterile, or overly themed designs to warmer, more natural, and personalized aesthetics. First on the list of fading trends is the black and white farmhouse aesthetic. While popular for a decade, its starkness is giving way to warmer palettes and natural materials. Instead of this monochrome look, incorporating elements like wood, stone, linen, and earthy tones such as rich browns, deep greens, and soft rosy hues is recommended to create a cozier atmosphere. For those who still appreciate modern farmhouse, the suggestion is to update it with vintage art and unfinished brass accents. Frameless mirrors, once a symbol of modernity, are also losing favor. The article advises replacing them with framed mirrors that add character and integrate with the overall bathroom design. Popular choices include organic oval shapes, art deco-inspired curves, and frames made from materials like wood or brass, potentially matching the wall's paint color. Carrara white marble is noted as an overused material that can appear sterile. The recommendation is to opt for unique marbles in jewel tones or artisanal zellige-style tiles, which introduce earthy elements and a sense of uniqueness. Ornate fixtures are another trend on the decline. These can overwhelm a space and detract from sophistication. Clean-lined fixtures in matte black or brushed brass are suggested, paired with natural stone countertops and more refined, architectural lighting and mirrors. Jacuzzi tubs, along with glass block windows, are identified as space-hogging and difficult to clean, and consequently, outdated. Elegant alternatives include freestanding tubs or spacious showers, potentially with steam features. For natural light, clear glass windows are preferred over glass blocks, provided privacy is not an issue. An “explosion” of tile, covering all surfaces, is also deemed passé. The advice is to use tiles strategically, such as in the shower or as a backsplash, and balance them with bare walls, painted surfaces, wood paneling, or textured finishes to create a more modern and less overwhelming look. Vessel sinks, much like pedestal sinks, are also exiting the trend sphere. Integrated sinks in materials like stone or concrete are favored for their seamless appearance, as are under-mount sinks with quartz or earth-toned marble countertops. Generic overhead lighting, particularly “boob lights,” is considered outdated. The article promotes layered lighting solutions, such as modern sconces, to provide a softer, more flattering glow and elevate the bathroom’s ambiance. Traditional bath mats are encouraged to be stored away when not in use, with washable rugs made from natural wool or cotton becoming popular for their decorative potential and unique designs. White subway tile, especially in traditional brick or herringbone patterns, is seen as overdone and sterile. The article suggests exploring shades like sage green, dusty pink, warm clay, or other earthy tones to make the space more inviting. Faux wood tile and vinyl are out, as materials that attempt to mimic others can make a home appear cheap and dated. The recommendation is to use authentic materials such as natural stones, porcelain, or cement tiles, or properly treated real wood flooring. Finally, overly themed bathrooms (e.g., beach, western, industrial) are advised against. Instead, drawing inspiration from nature, using organic materials, and incorporating natural greenery with potted plants are recommended to create a more timeless and serene environment. #BathroomTrends #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #BathroomRenovation #OutdatedDecor #ModernBathroom #NaturalMaterials #TileTrends #LightingDesign #HomeImprovement #BathroomTrends #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #BathroomRenovation #OutdatedDecor #ModernBathroom #NaturalMaterials #TileTrends #LightingDesign #HomeImprovement
