Three creative and quirky styling tips I learnt from Kmart's August Living launch

The author shares insights gained from the Kmart August Living catalogue activation at Pacific Fair, highlighting creative and quirky styling ideas for homewares and furniture. The article emphasizes that effective home styling doesn't require extensive knowledge of design rules but rather an openness to playful and imaginative approaches. The event served as a platform to showcase how Kmart's latest collection can be used to enhance interior aesthetics. One key takeaway is a simple yet innovative use of Kmart's $12 yellow zig-zag vase. Instead of using it upright, the vase was laid flat to serve as a base for other decorative items, and even as a foundation for a vase of flowers on a dining table, allowing space for share plates. This unconventional application sparked a new perspective on how everyday decor items can be repurposed and integrated into displays. The activation also reinforced the effectiveness of using neutral colors as a base and then layering vibrant accents. Kmart's August collection heavily features neutral-colored homewares and furniture, enabling customers to gradually add pieces to their homes without needing to overhaul entire spaces at once. While neutrals like white, cream, and timber form the core palette, the collection also incorporates pops of color, such as forest green, soft pink, and gold detailing. The colored glassware collection is particularly noted for adding significant vibrancy and fashion-forward appeal. Nicholas Holmes, a Kmart buyer, explained that this approach allows shoppers to introduce trending colors through smaller items like cushions, decor pieces, or candles, building upon an existing neutral foundation. The dining table display at the event exemplified this concept, featuring white Bodrum dinnerware with subtle speckles and an imperfect round shape, complemented by beige napkins and a timber serving board. Gold cutlery and servingware provided an elegant touch, while green glass tumblers added a striking pop of color. Another engaging display involved a large-scale poppy installation, where artificial poppy bunches, sold individually for $12 at Kmart, were used en masse to create a vibrant feature trailing from an archway to a faux garden setting around a boucle and timber armchair. While replicating this exact setup might be challenging for a typical home, the idea can be scaled down or adapted for smaller decorative accents or party decor. The overall message from the activation is that creating a beautiful space is accessible and can be achieved through embracing color, creativity, and personal enjoyment of one's home. The Kmart August Living catalogue was released on July 27, with many products already available and more to follow. #Kmart #HomeDecor #InteriorStyling #HomeHacks #Homewares #NeutralPalette #ColorPops #CreativeDecor #BudgetDecor #Kmart #HomeDecor #InteriorStyling #HomeHacks #Homewares #NeutralPalette #ColorPops #CreativeDecor #BudgetDecor
