This House's Layout Was Actually Great, But Its Interiors Weren't. Here's How a Designer Fixed it.

This article highlights a home renovation project in Kirkland, Washington, where the existing layout was functional, but the interiors were outdated, reflecting a 1990s aesthetic. Designer Jessica Nelson undertook the task of modernizing the home to better represent the clients' personal style. The renovation was executed in two distinct phases. The initial phase concentrated on key areas: the kitchen, powder room, and primary bathroom. The kitchen underwent a complete transformation, with all cabinets and appliances replaced to eliminate the dated 90s feel and introduce a contemporary look. The powder room, originally unremarkable, was revitalized into a moody and sophisticated space through the introduction of eye-catching wallpaper, a vintage-inspired rug, and elegant brass fixtures. The primary bathroom required a more extensive overhaul due to a leaking steam shower, which revealed significant rot. Following the removal of the steam shower, the space was entirely renovated with new tiles, modern fixtures, and updated finishes. The second phase of the project addressed the remaining two bathrooms, a craft room, and the laundry room. Both guest bathrooms received full gut renovations; one was converted from a shower-only setup to include a full bathtub, while the other was updated with new fixtures and finishes. The craft room, previously an upstairs laundry room, was reimagined as a versatile workspace, offering smart storage solutions for wrapping and other activities after the removal of the stacked washer and dryer. While most of the house's layout remained largely unchanged due to its inherent functionality, the second laundry room was an exception. Its layout was reconfigured to enhance storage and overall functionality, accompanied by updated finishes and fixtures. The exterior of the house, described as charming, was retained without significant changes. This project marked the third collaboration between Jessica Nelson and these particular clients, a relationship that fostered mutual trust and openness to design suggestions. The successful renovation resulted in a home that now feels welcoming, comfortable, and authentically reflective of the family's updated preferences and style. #HomeRenovation #InteriorDesign #KitchenRemodel #BathroomRenovation #HomeTours #JessicaNelsonDesign #ModernInteriors #OutdatedToUpdated #SeattleHomes #HomeRenovation #InteriorDesign #KitchenRemodel #BathroomRenovation #HomeTours #JessicaNelsonDesign #ModernInteriors #OutdatedToUpdated #SeattleHomes
