Supra-Simplicities designed a modular home unit, titled 'Everything All on Track,' which won first prize in Buildner's second Modular Home competition. This design focuses on maximizing the flexibility and movability of domestic living. The core concept involves a roomless structure built around an internal infrastructural track grid, allowing the living space to be adapted to the user's evolving needs, influenced by social or environmental changes. The modular house incorporates a sophisticated track and carrier system to facilitate easy, systematic operation and directional flexibility. All internal elements, including furniture, objects, and operable partitions, are equipped with wheels, enabling them to be moved along the home's plan. A cross-shaped junction in the track system provides occupants with the freedom to relocate items along two perpendicular axes, significantly enhancing the versatility of the interior space. The track infrastructure extends beyond the interior, with tracks on the roof and beneath the floor supporting essential units such as roof panels, rainwater collectors, photovoltaic panels, water supply systems, and septic tanks. By intentionally creating a 'roomless' design, the house avoids static divisions into conventional spaces like bedrooms, dining rooms, or living rooms. Instead, it offers a dynamic open zone that can be reconfigured for various domestic functions. This modular open plan allows users to personalize the characteristics and functions of their living environment based on their preferences. Cherrymore Kitchens and Bedrooms, a prominent kitchen manufacturer in Ireland, relies on Cabinet Vision software to manage its extensive production of thousands of panels weekly. The company's 80,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Donegal produces made-to-order kitchens primarily for its sister retail company, Rite Price. Cabinet Vision ensures precise cutting of panels, receiving unit lists from Rite Price as XL files, which are then cross-referenced with CAD drawings for verification. Martin McLaughlin, co-owner and head of production at Cherrymore, explains that the information from Rite Price is fed into Cabinet Vision. This software then generates the NC code required for routing, controls the loading, boring, and labeling processes on their SCM Accord machine, and optimizes the operations of their Holzma beam saw. While Rite Price already utilizes a specialized kitchen design software, Cherrymore currently uses Cabinet Vision's integrated Screen-to-Machine module to send accurate code directly to the machines for cutting, boring, and labeling panels. The long-term plan is to expand the use of Cabinet Vision to encompass design, enabling the creation of photo-rendered drawings and cutlists. Jason Gallen, a machine operator, is responsible for inputting the unit lists, which detail the size and style of various Rite Price units, ranging from 150mm to 1200mm. He manually drags and drops the required parts for each unit into the Cabinet Vision file for a specific job. Once the list is complete, the S2M Center generates toolpaths for all the individual parts. Gallen then optimizes the layout to create the most efficient nesting pattern before selecting either the SCM or Holzma machine to run the program. This process significantly reduces the time required compared to manual methods, as each unit can involve up to ten parts, and manual input used to take at least two hours, now shortened to just ten minutes with Cabinet Vision. The Screen-to-Machine Ultimate module, used by Cherrymore, offers several advanced features. These include controlling tool feeds and speeds based on material, managing the maximum depth per pass of tools by material, ABC axis rotation, and squaring up and managing nest off-fall when nesting. It also allows the definition of multiple sheet sizes per material. The parametric nature of Cabinet Vision is particularly beneficial when handling off-standard components. If an aspect of a panel is expanded or shrunk, the software automatically adjusts other elements, preventing issues such as incorrectly placed handle and hinge holes. Beyond machine operation, Jason Gallen utilizes Cabinet Vision's capability to generate a list of sheets before machining begins. This feature allows Cherrymore to prepare stacks of two-sided laminate chipboard or MDF sheets for either machine. Each unit is constructed from dense 18mm board, combined with glued and dowelled joints, ensuring the production of robust carcasses. The software's labeling function is crucial, clearly identifying each panel with its part number, customer details, color, and size. The support provided by Cabinet Vision's team was instrumental in accurately setting up the system. Martin McLaughlin emphasizes the importance of good support for any powerful software. He notes that Cabinet Vision dedicated significant effort to optimizing the Holzma and configuring the labeling system, resulting in flawless operation that justified the initial setup effort. Cherrymore's manufacturing division, established for approximately 12 years, produces a diverse range of traditional and contemporary kitchen styles, including modern flat and slab doors, classic shaker designs, and solid timber options.
