Is Wall-to-Wall Carpeting Coming Back in Style? Designers Didn't Hold Back

Wall-to-wall carpeting, a design element that often sparks debate, is showing signs of a potential comeback in home aesthetics. A survey of four interior designers reveals a surprising consensus: while not universally adopted, wall-to-wall carpet is gaining traction in specific areas of the home, and all designers expressed an overall pro-carpet stance, with certain caveats regarding placement and material. Three of the four designers noted an increased client request for wall-to-wall carpeting, particularly in children's and guest bedrooms. Liz Goldberg of CAROLYNLEONA by Liz Goldberg observed that clients often opt for wall-to-wall carpeting in these rooms to introduce warmth and texture, creating a cozy environment, while reserving hardwood floors for primary bedrooms. Similarly, Jaime Galapo of Galapo Group Design found that clients seeking a "hotel feeling" in their primary bedrooms often indirectly lead to the inclusion of wall-to-wall carpet. Galapo encourages clients to embrace bold colors or patterns for bedroom carpets, suggesting that since carpeting is not a permanent fixture, it allows for more playful and unique design choices. Bre Hance of InHance, who works with clients across the United States, has seen wall-to-wall carpeting frequently incorporated into primary closets in her recent projects, conditional on proper maintenance. This indicates a growing acceptance of carpet in less high-traffic, more personal spaces within the home. In contrast, Alice T. Chan, a project director at Freemodel, believes that while wall-to-wall carpeting hasn't fully returned to widespread popularity, it should. She remains a strong advocate for carpet, emphasizing the importance of selecting a quality carpet with substantial weight and pairing it with a thick pad for a luxurious feel. Chan also suggests using darker, grounding colors like blues, greens, and grays to promote a calmer atmosphere. Despite their general approval, designers unanimously cautioned against using wall-to-wall carpeting in certain high-spill or high-traffic areas. Goldberg advises against it in living rooms and playrooms, where durability and ease of cleaning are paramount. Galapo reinforces this, recommending against installation in kitchens and bathrooms. The consensus also highlights the significance of material quality. Chan specifically dislikes Berber carpets and emphasizes that opting for cheap carpet with a thin pad is counterproductive, suggesting that it's better to stick with plywood in such cases. The overall sentiment among designers points towards a strategic reintroduction of wall-to-wall carpeting, favoring specific rooms and prioritizing quality and appropriate usage to maximize its benefits in home design. #WallToWallCarpeting #InteriorDesignTrends #HomeDecor #BedroomDesign #FlooringChoices #DesignersOpinion #HomeImprovement #TextileFlooring #WallToWallCarpeting #InteriorDesignTrends #HomeDecor #BedroomDesign #FlooringChoices #DesignersOpinion #HomeImprovement #TextileFlooring
