Meet Cody Clark
Cody Clark is the Lead Artisan and Vice President of Olde World Walls & Ceilings Inc., a company founded by his father in 2004. The business specializes in historic plaster restoration, lime-based finishes, and masonry conservation. Clark's apprenticeship began in his teenage years, working alongside his father on job sites, where he learned the practical aspects of the trade, emphasizing precision, discipline, and preparedness. His training extended to working with master artisans, generational plasterers, masons, and traditional tradespeople from various regions, which provided him with diverse perspectives on restoration techniques and old-world knowledge.
Olde World Walls & Ceilings provides restoration services for interior and exterior masonry, particularly for historic buildings. Their clientele includes homeowners, general contractors, architects, municipalities, and non-profit organizations engaged in grant-funded and preservation projects across the Southeast. Beyond hands-on restoration, the company has expanded its mission to include educational content and training. They now offer e-books, modular online courses, in-person workshops, and content licensing options for academic and preservation programs, aiming to preserve traditional materials and techniques for future generations.
In addition to his role at Olde World Walls & Ceilings, Cody Clark serves as the Lead Consultant for The Plaster & Masonry Advisory Co., LLC. This new firm offers expert guidance to professionals working with historic structures, providing assistance with material recommendations, field diagnostics, repair scopes, and preservation strategies, with a focus on accuracy and sensitivity to original construction. Both companies are dedicated to preserving built heritage and empowering others with the knowledge to do the same.
The construction industry's unpredictability has necessitated strategic pivots for the company. Given their specialized focus on historic restoration, projects often depend on grant cycles, architectural planning, and municipal funding timelines. Despite losing his residence and crucial resources, he continued to manage a large, time-sensitive construction project without delays. He balanced supervising crews during the day with addressing the flood damage at his home in the afternoons, successfully completing the project on time. This experience reinforced his commitment to his work and maintaining his professional obligations even in the face of significant personal adversity, highlighting the importance of keeping one's word.
