5 ways to use green for a calming and revitalising small bathroom scheme

Decorating small bathrooms often presents a challenge, with a common inclination to default to neutral color palettes. However, embracing vibrant shades can dramatically alter the perception and ambiance of a compact space. This article explores how to effectively incorporate various green hues into small bathrooms to create a serene and inviting retreat. Green, described as a 'new neutral,' offers versatility for those seeking to introduce color while maintaining broad appeal. Its strong association with nature inherently contributes to a calm and tranquil environment, making it an ideal choice for a room dedicated to relaxation. The article begins by quoting Jo Sangster, a senior designer at Ripples London, who highlights green as the most popular color choice currently, with clients favoring both deep forest shades and soft sage tones. Sangster emphasizes that the trend for green in bathrooms is enduring due to its natural fit and tranquil properties. While green is a versatile choice, small bathrooms require careful consideration to ensure the space looks its best. Five distinct approaches to integrating green into small bathrooms are detailed. The first method suggests layering color with wall paneling. Paler green shades are particularly effective in modern bathrooms but can also enhance antique-inspired aesthetics when combined with rustic accessories, traditional sanitary ware, and wallpaper. Wall paneling, especially tongue and groove, offers a way to add character without clutter, and can be an affordable DIY project. The second tip recommends opting for a pale sage green. Lighter shades are known to make small spaces appear larger and more open. Sage green, in particular, evokes a sense of nature with a contemporary feel, creating a Scandi-inspired sanctuary when paired with elements like terrazzo tiles and matte black accents. Next, the article advises adding light-reflecting features. In small bathrooms, where natural light may be limited, incorporating reflective surfaces can add depth. Handcrafted tiles with a natural sheen and uneven texture can provide visual interest, while metallic accents in gold for taps, mirrors, and lighting fixtures can unify the design. Jorge Hernandez, head of design at Britton, notes that maximizing natural light and choosing fixtures with green accents or reflective surfaces are key to amplifying the sense of space. The fourth strategy involves laying tiles vertically. This technique, applied to popular subway tiles, creates an illusion of height by drawing the eye upwards rather than outwards, making the room feel more expansive. Tiles also serve a practical purpose by protecting walls from splashes, making them a functional and stylish choice for compact bathrooms. Finally, the article encourages going 'all in' with color, even with darker shades of green. Deep emerald tones can create a moody and luxurious atmosphere, perfect for extended soaks. Color drenching, which involves painting walls, woodwork, and ceilings in the same bold hue, makes the design cohesive and intentional. To balance a dark scheme, metallic and glass accents are recommended. Barrie Cutchie, design director at BC Designs, points out that even freestanding baths are now available in smaller footprints and vibrant colors like green, allowing for bold design choices in compact spaces. The article concludes by addressing a common question: what color makes a small bathroom look bigger? While neutral shades are traditional choices for brightness, the experts suggest that richer, warmer, and darker greens can be very effective for a modern look, provided there is ample lighting to prevent the room from feeling too dim. Green is highlighted for its ability to bring a sense of calm and well-being, with bright gold effects recommended for a luxe finish, even in smaller areas. #BathroomDecor #SmallBathroomIdeas #GreenInteriors #InteriorDesign #ColorScheme #HomeRenovation #TileDesign #HomeDecor #BathroomDecor #SmallBathroomIdeas #GreenInteriors #InteriorDesign #ColorScheme #HomeRenovation #TileDesign #HomeDecor
