This Interior Designer’s Home Project in Irvington Is a Timeless Stunner

Gia Mar Interiors, led by Gianna Marzella, undertook a comprehensive renovation of a 4,448-square-foot Colonial-inspired home in Irvington for a young family of four. The project, completed in 2023, aimed to create a modern yet timeless aesthetic, primarily utilizing a palette of neutral hues complemented by various shades of blue. The homeowners, having recently moved from Manhattan and rented in Tarrytown, chose this family-friendly Irvington residence for their 'forever home' and sought Marzella's expertise for a unique redesign. The renovation encompassed all living spaces within the home, including the kitchen, bathrooms, dining room, and bedrooms. A core aspect of Marzella's design philosophy is client collaboration, which she considers her favorite part of the process. She engages clients deeply by exploring their vision, understanding their current lifestyle, and envisioning their future needs over the next five to ten years. This approach ensures that each project tells a distinct story and is tailored to the occupants, preventing a one-size-fits-all design. The strategic use of blue throughout the home serves to evoke a sense of calm and longevity, aligning with the homeowners' desire for a timeless color scheme. For instance, the kitchen features classic white Shaker cabinets for storage, dramatically contrasted by a midnight blue island. Quartz countertops and a light-gray herringbone backsplash further enhance the contemporary yet classic feel of the space. In other areas, custom bathroom wallpaper adds personalized touches, while the dining room incorporates a mid-toned blue on the upper walls to create a subtle dramatic effect. Marzella's professional background significantly influences her design methodology. Her experience at Rockwell Group, a prominent architectural firm in Manhattan, exposed her to hyper-creative and original projects within the hospitality industry. This experience instilled in her the belief that every design project is an opportunity to craft a unique narrative by integrating the client's perspective with her own design sensibility, resulting in spaces that are both personal and artfully curated. With bachelor's degrees in psychology and interior design, Marzella made a career transition to establish Gia Mar Interiors in 2014, driven by a desire for a new rhythm that allowed her to apply her learned knowledge and shape her own design journey. She expressed a deep passion for both residential and commercial projects, finding fulfillment in balancing these two areas of design. The client-focused process at Gia Mar Interiors begins with a discovery call to understand the client's vision, followed by the creation of a mood board to align with their preferences. Marzella then reviews the imagery with the clients, discussing their goals and budget to establish a clear design direction. The firm also assists in selecting contractors and provides construction administration, including regular site meetings and visits. For clients who manage construction themselves, Marzella maintains communication to address any questions. Beyond structural design, Gia Mar Interiors also handles interior decor, from furniture selection to the styling of small details like throw pillows, and even extends to selecting flatware and serving ware, depending on the client's specific wishes. This comprehensive approach ensures true cohesion and attention to detail across the entire project. #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #IrvingtonHome #GiaMarInteriors #TimelessDesign #ModernColonial #ClientCollaboration #ResidentialDesign #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #IrvingtonHome #GiaMarInteriors #TimelessDesign #ModernColonial #ClientCollaboration #ResidentialDesign
