TAKT launches Plint: the crafted coffee table by Cecilie Manz

TAKT, a Danish furniture brand recognized for its Scandinavian aesthetic, sustainability, and accessible business model, has introduced Plint, a new coffee table designed in collaboration with Cecilie Manz. Plint marks Manz’s first design for TAKT and expands the brand's existing line of flatpack furniture to include a new functional piece while adhering to TAKT's core principles of sustainable wood materials, timeless Scandinavian simplicity, and ease of assembly. The Plint coffee table is designed for versatility, suitable for various placements within a home, such as a coffee table, a side table, or a surface for books and papers. The collaboration marries Manz's established design expertise with TAKT's innovative approach, which focuses on high-quality Danish design using sustainable materials, sold directly to consumers at an accessible price point. This direct-to-consumer model and flatpack distribution aim to reduce fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and offer cost savings to customers. A key design challenge for TAKT's designers is to create intuitive self-assembly mechanisms that enhance the user experience of flatpack furniture. Manz's solution for Plint simplifies the table into two main components: a tabletop and an apron. The tabletop is connected to the legs using vegetable-tanned leather hinges, and the apron is secured with a leather loop and an octagonal wedge through an aperture in the supports. This design allows the table to be shipped in a narrow, flat package and assembled quickly without the need for glue, bolts, or screws. The materials used for Plint emphasize natural elements and craftsmanship. The tabletop and side pieces are cut from a single, hand-selected piece of timber, ensuring a continuous grain pattern, with the leather hinge being the only interruption. The wedge connection, inspired by traditional joinery, is meticulously crafted to provide a secure and stable structure. The leather components are sourced from Tärnsjö Garveri, a Swedish tannery known for its environmentally conscious, chrome-free vegetable tanning process. Plint is available in three wood options: Oregon Pine, Kalmar Pine, and Oak, each offering distinct aesthetic qualities. Oregon Pine provides a precise grain and golden hue, Kalmar Pine from Swedish forests features a soft, bright appearance, and Oak presents a darker, more rustic look. The wood pieces are hand-selected and precisely cut to achieve the desired texture and grain before the leather components are attached. The finished planks are machined to ensure high precision in the final product. Consistent with all TAKT products, Plint has received the EU Ecolabel, signifying a comprehensive commitment to sustainability across material sourcing, production, transportation, and recyclability. Furthermore, TAKT offers replacement parts for Plint, enabling users to repair the furniture and extend its lifespan. All wood used is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified and treated with natural oils, which allows the wood to develop a unique patina over time and enables customers to maintain or repair the surface with sandpaper and oil treatment. #FurnitureDesign #SustainableDesign #DanishDesign #CecilieManz #TaktFurniture #FlatpackFurniture #CraftedWood #LeatherHinges #EcoFriendlyMaterials #FurnitureDesign #SustainableDesign #DanishDesign #CecilieManz #TaktFurniture #FlatpackFurniture #CraftedWood #LeatherHinges #EcoFriendlyMaterials
