Cecilie Manz's flat-pack Plint table for Takt is made up of two parts

Danish designer Cecilie Manz has developed the Plint table for furniture brand Takt, featuring a minimalist flat-pack design that prioritizes ease of assembly and sustainability. The coffee table consists of just two primary components: a tabletop and a base, designed to be easily packaged and transported in a flat form. The name "Plint" is derived from the Dutch word for "plinth," reflecting its simple yet functional structure, which Manz describes as a highly functional and self-explanatory furniture item she frequently revisits in her designs. This intuitive design aims to mitigate common frustrations associated with self-assembly furniture by eliminating the need for glue, bolts, or screws. The innovative assembly mechanism relies on leather loops and octagonal wooden rods. The tabletop initially appears as a single long plank but is designed with ends that fold down to form two legs. These legs are connected to the tabletop by leather hinges, which are subtly secured within slots along the edges of the wood. The central base of the table incorporates leather loops at each end. During assembly, these loops are threaded through openings in the folded legs, and a wooden octagonal rod is then inserted into each loop to firmly secure the components in place. This method echoes traditional "pegged stretcher" joinery often seen in classic dining tables, ensuring stability without complex hardware. Manz's use of leather as a hinging material stems from her decade-long exploration of its functional applications. She intentionally uses full-grain leather in a minimal and precise manner, highlighting its genuine quality and functional efficacy. The leather for the Plint table is sourced from Tärnsjö Garveri, a Swedish tanning house known for using bark extracts for tanning, a more environmentally friendly approach compared to the chrome-based techniques prevalent in the furniture industry. Sustainability extends to the table's wooden construction. The tabletop and side elements are precisely cut from a single piece of timber. This not only ensures a consistent grain pattern across the visible surfaces but also minimizes material waste. The design highlights the natural beauty of the wood, with the leather hinges providing the only visual interruption to the continuous grain. The Plint table is offered in three wood finishes: Oregon pine, Kalmar pine, and oak, providing options for different aesthetic preferences. This Plint table marks Cecilie Manz's inaugural collaboration with Takt, a brand known for its commitment to classic Danish design principles. Takt's founder, Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, emphasizes the brand's focus on functionality, honest materials, and reduced ornamentation, all while maintaining a distinct personality. Lorensen specifically commends Manz's ability to imbue her designs with a "pared-back aesthetic that doesn't shout but has this strong personality, presence and atmosphere." The Plint table integrates seamlessly into Takt's existing collection of flat-pack furniture, which includes items like a steel chair and a wooden table designed by Pearson Lloyd, further solidifying Takt's position as a purveyor of thoughtfully designed, self-assemblable furniture.
