Review: Nanoleaf 4D Adds Easy Content-Synced Backlighting to Your TV or Display
The Nanoleaf 4D Screen Mirror and Lightstrip Kit offers an LED gradient light strip designed to provide content-synced backlighting for televisions and monitors. Launched by Nanoleaf in June, this system utilizes a camera to detect on-screen colors and dynamically adjust the light strip's illumination to match, aiming to enhance the immersive viewing experience. The kit is available in two sizes, accommodating TVs and monitors up to 65 inches and up to 85 inches, respectively. The light strip itself features 10 color zones per meter, allowing for the display of multiple colors simultaneously, and supports over 16 million colors, similar to other LED light strips on the market.
Installation involves attaching the light strip to the back of the TV and positioning a camera at the top or bottom of the screen. The camera relays detected colors to a controller unit, which then powers the light strip. While the design aims for hidden cabling, strong adhesive is necessary for secure placement, as some users might experience corners lifting. The reviewer noted that their Sony TV's design presented challenges for the included corner mounting hardware, leading to some angled corners.

While basic on/off and static color control is available via the Home app, full functionality requires the Nanoleaf app. Priced at $100 for the 65-inch kit and $120 for the 85-inch kit, the Nanoleaf 4D is presented as an affordable and easy-to-set-up option, especially when compared to more expensive alternatives like the Hue Sync Box ($250). It is recommended for those starting a new lighting setup or already invested in Nanoleaf products.
