What’s the Best Vacuum for Pet Hair? | Reviews by Wirecutter

Keeping a home with multiple pets clean presents a unique challenge, as pet fur can quickly accumulate despite regular cleaning efforts. This article reviews six vacuum models specifically chosen for their effectiveness in tackling pet fur. The selection process involved rigorous testing of cleaning power on various surfaces, the utility of specialized attachments, product reliability with adequate warranties, and overall convenience, including ease of handling and sufficient bin capacity. Among handheld options, the Black+Decker 20V Max Dustbuster AdvancedClean+ Cordless Pet Hand Vacuum HHVK515JP07 is highlighted for its superior pet fur removal capabilities. It features a powerful motorized brush that dislodges stubborn fur from upholstery and an extendable crevice tool for tight spaces. This model boasts the largest bin volume and longest run time (25 minutes) among tested handheld vacuums, with a quick charging time of less than three hours. Its washable and replaceable filters and a two-year warranty contribute to its appeal, although its extendable crevice tool can be stiff and emptying the bin can be tricky. For those seeking a plug-in solution, the SEBO Airbelt K3 Premium canister vacuum is recommended. It excels in cleaning power and filtration, performing well on both bare floors and carpets. Its electric cleaner head efficiently removes fur and debris, and its height-adjustable design ensures smooth operation across different flooring types. The vacuum includes useful attachments like an upholstery tool and offers excellent S-class filtration, making it suitable for individuals with pet allergies. Designed for longevity, it comes with an extensive warranty (up to 10 years with registration) and is notably quiet during operation. The Ryobi 18V One+ HP Advanced Stick Vacuum Kit serves as an ideal cordless stick vacuum for smaller homes with one or two pets. It features an all-terrain cleaner head with a headlight, effectively picking up pet hair on various surfaces. Its extra-large dustbin minimizes the need for frequent emptying. The vacuum includes three cleaning modes, with a boost mode for stubborn messes, and can transform into a handheld unit with useful attachments, including a motorized mini brush for upholstery. Despite being heavier than some competitors, it stands independently and offers a solid three-year warranty, with a replaceable battery that charges in two hours. Finally, the Roborock Q7 M5+ robot vacuum is presented as a smart solution for automated pet hair maintenance. This quiet and thorough cleaner navigates effectively using bump sensors and lidar, mapping multiple home levels accurately. Its user-friendly app allows for extensive customization of cleaning cycles and includes an auto-boost mode for heavily furred areas. The robot vacuum efficiently avoids obstacles (though users should clear cables and toys) and features a self-emptying charging dock, offering convenience and a one-year warranty. These diverse options cater to different needs and preferences, all aimed at effectively managing pet hair in the home environment.
