Twelve contemporary bathrooms with a spa-like feel
This lookbook presents a curated selection of twelve contemporary bathrooms designed to evoke a spa-like ambiance, offering visual inspiration for home interiors. These bathrooms are characterized by a minimalist aesthetic, featuring open spaces, natural materials, textural surfaces, earthy color palettes, and oversized fixtures. The design philosophy emphasizes keeping accessories and decoration to a minimum to create a soothing environment, thereby drawing attention to the luxurious textures and materials used.
One example is the Cloister House in Australia by MORQ, where rammed concrete walls are left exposed, providing a brutalist yet textural quality to the bathroom. Red hardwood accents on the ceiling and joinery introduce warmth, framing the bathtub, sink, and storage areas. Similarly, StudioAC's Borden House in Toronto features an en-suite bathroom with a symmetric design and a neutral grey palette. Concrete tiles cover the floor, walls, and pitched roof, enclosing a large inset bath. A square, black-framed window offers symmetrical views of the Toronto cityscape.
Innauer-Matt Architekten's House with Three Eyes in Austria presents a tranquil bathroom enclosed by a glazed wall with mountain views. Pale wood lines the walls and extends to a small terrace, while veined stone encases the bathtub and is integrated into the flooring alongside light wood floorboards. In Costa Rica, the Art Villa by Formafatal and Refuel Works showcases a diverse material palette of concrete, wood, and tile. A freestanding stone bathtub rests on slatted wooden floors near a floor-to-ceiling window, with sculptural lights set within a wooden half-wall.
The Submariner's House in London by Jonathan Tuckey Design features a light-filled limestone bathroom combining dark and pale-hued stone. Angular limestone fixtures and a limestone bath are positioned beneath an opacity-adjustable skylight, complemented by concealed cupboards and mirrored cabinets for a clean look. MW Works' Whidbey Island Farm in the United States incorporates polished concrete and wood on its walls and floors. A glass screen encloses a walk-in shower, and a dark stone surface-top conceals cabinetry.
Jeffrey Dungan Architects' Harrison Residence in Florida integrates a European farmhouse style, with a freestanding bathtub and a large walk-in shower bathed in natural light from dark wood shutters. Gold-colored fixtures and a spherical Moroccan-style pendant light enhance the luxurious feel. The Nobu Hotel in Mexico, designed by WATG and Studio PCH, features a wet room with rich woods, sand-hued tiles, and a pebble-stone feature wall. A wooden Japanese-style bath is situated beneath a skylight, with light stone cladding contrasting with the darker pebble-stone wall.
Cousins & Cousins' Kenwood Lee House in London boasts a minimalist bathroom with bright white walls and floor-to-ceiling windows. A floating double-basin sink below wide mirrored cabinetry reflects the garden's foliage, visually expanding the space. Carter Williamson Architects' Screen House in Sydney is distinguished by black circular tiles covering the walls, floors, and pitched roof. Wood accents, such as window frames and a sink basin, add warmth, while frosted windows provide privacy and diffuse light.
Studio Ben Allen's The House Recast in London incorporates bright green tiles in a wainscotting style, blending with green-patinated fixtures like an inset bathtub and a cylindrical sink. Shaded areas on a small window create dappled light, echoing the curved corners of the room. Finally, the Pedro Reyes House in Mexico City, designed by Pedro Reyes and Carla Fernandez, features a textural stone bathroom with a moody, monument-like aesthetic. Coarse concrete walls and a stone bathtub carved to resemble a rock pool are illuminated by a skylight, with an organically molded sink reflecting pottery forms.
