Tips on Holiday Decorating from a Charlotte Pro

Hadley Quisenberry, owner and principal designer of West Trade Interiors, shares her approach to holiday decorating, which she describes as sophisticated yet connected to her children. Drawing inspiration from her mother, a longtime interior designer, Quisenberry emphasizes the use of fresh greenery and meaningful family traditions. Her decorating style blends specialty decor with homemade items, creating a display that is easy to manage and not overly busy. For outdoor decorations, Quisenberry suggests starting with a fresh wreath and adding garland around the door frame or columns to enhance curb appeal. She personalizes her wreath with light blue Schumacher tape. Inside, the Christmas tree serves as the central element, adorned with a mix of children's ornaments and vintage bulbs, creating a cohesive look by incorporating special tapes and trims in a chosen color theme. The family tradition of selecting a flocked tree from Kings Drive Farmers Market is a significant part of their holiday preparation. Quisenberry extends the use of fresh greenery throughout the home. She recommends mini-wreaths for the kitchen, enhanced with fresh magnolia and dried berries, tied with velvet ribbon. Simple organic materials, such as pinecones, are used to dress up tabletops, and candlesticks are swapped for festive alternatives. Layering greenery on tables and shelves provides a backdrop for holiday collections. When it comes to collections, such as Christmas villages or nutcrackers, Quisenberry advises grouping them together in main gathering spaces for an eye-catching display, rather than scattering them throughout the house. This approach amplifies their impact and creates a sense of nostalgia. Regarding color schemes, Quisenberry advocates for non-traditional choices that complement the home's existing interiors. She often uses navy and sky blue, and has recently experimented with pinks and reds. To achieve a coordinated look, she suggests reserving decorative trim for the tree and front entry, and using satin and velvet ribbons in complementary colors for hanging wreaths and wrapping presents. Mixing solid colors with geometric patterns in fabrics, such as custom or ready-made pillows, can create a curated and interesting aesthetic without being overwhelming. For children's decor, Quisenberry recommends integrating handmade creations and collections alongside classic elements. Repetition is key to making children's items impactful and cohesive. Building displays around their collections allows children to feel proud and involved. If there are multiple collections, she advises placing them in different rooms to give each a special spot without crowding any single area. Fresh greenery, including eucalyptus, boxwood, magnolia cuttings, and assorted garlands, are popular choices, with sprigs of red holly berries or blue cedar adding natural pops of color. #HolidayDecorating #HomeDecor #ChristmasDecorations #InteriorDesign #FestiveHome #DIYDecor #CharlotteLifestyle #SeasonalDecor #FamilyTraditions #HolidayDecorating #HomeDecor #ChristmasDecorations #InteriorDesign #FestiveHome #DIYDecor #CharlotteLifestyle #SeasonalDecor #FamilyTraditions
