These Are the 7 Biggest Home Design Trends for Spring, According to Our Editors

This article outlines seven significant home decor trends anticipated for Spring 2023, drawing insights from the recent Maison&Objet and Deco Off interior design trade fairs in Paris. The trends emphasize a blend of traditional craftsmanship, escapism, comfort, and artistic expression, offering various ways for homeowners to refresh their living spaces. First, embroidery is experiencing a major resurgence. Modern interpretations incorporate chunky textures, raffia details, hand-sewn French knots, and chain stitches, creating an artistic and charming appeal. Designs range from whimsical tree-of-life patterns to suzani-inspired motifs, often evoking folk art and painterly strokes. This trend can be integrated into homes through embroidered pillows, textured wall coverings, or colorful tapestries, adding depth and a handcrafted feel. Second, "Inspired Escapism" focuses on bringing travel and natural tranquility into the home. Wall coverings feature exotic locales and delicate, antique-effect designs, such as the Tropicali print by Arte with its gold and lilac hues. Textiles, like Métaphores's Hamac sheer fabric, are designed to create serene environments reminiscent of natural settings, encouraging a pause and appreciation for subtle design elements. Homeowners can adopt this trend by using textured sheer curtains that allow natural light to filter through, alongside wall coverings that transport them to far-off places. Third, cozy, textural fabrics remain prominent but with a shift in color palette. While bouclé continues to be popular, the previous dominance of white is giving way to richer, earthier tones such as ochre, terracotta, and forest greens. New collections, like Holly Hunt's Relaxed and Refined, emphasize comfort and relaxation through chunky, knit-like woven fabrics and the reintroduction of chenille. This trend is about creating a sense of warmth and inviting tactility in home furnishings. Fourth, the "Under the Sea" motif is revisited with a luxurious touch. Design elements feature shimmering silver embroideries of marine life, shell-shaped porcelain adorned with 24-karat gold, and intricate wall coverings like de Gournay's Amami Waves, inspired by Japanese kimonos and Edo period art. This trend offers a sophisticated way to incorporate oceanic themes, whether through elaborate wall decor or subtle brass shell planters. Fifth, artful lighting is treated as a sculptural element. Exhibitors like Designheure presented modernist fixtures with curated details, while Alexandra Ferdinande showcased wicker and rattan pieces that blend natural materials with artistic form. Pulpo Products' lighting, designed by Sebastian Herkner, illuminates spaces like delicate sculptures. The overarching theme is to select lighting not just for illumination but as a distinct work of art that complements personal style, from contemporary lamps to woven sconces. Sixth, a "Striking '70s Rewind" continues its presence, evolving with a futuristic edge. Designers like Lee Broom display sleek designs with shiny chrome and curving lines, evoking a sense of classic yet forward-looking aesthetics. Maison Matisse presents low-slung rattan seating and playful, earth-toned patterns, incorporating recycled and sustainable cork for a modern, eco-conscious approach. This trend encourages integrating vintage-inspired furniture, particularly those made from natural materials, to create comfortable and stylish spaces. Seventh, tree and leaf patterns are gaining traction, moving beyond tropical prints to tapestry-inspired designs. These patterns feature verdant trees and leaves in vivid shades of green, offering a fresh way to bring the outdoors in. This trend can be incorporated through botanical-themed fabrics and wallpapers, creating a serene and natural ambiance within the home. Finally, coral and vermilion hues are emerging as key colors, building on previous trends like millennial pink and terracotta. These vibrant, cheerful reddish tones are appearing across various home items, including tableware, outdoor fabrics, and furniture. This bold color choice offers an energetic and warm accent for interiors, whether through painted walls, fabrics, or statement furniture pieces. #HomeDecorTrends #Spring2023 #InteriorDesign #MaisonEtObjet #DecoOff #Embroidery #EscapistDesign #TexturalFabrics #OceanicDecor #ArtfulLighting #SeventiesRevival #BotanicalPrints #CoralColors #HomeDecorTrends #Spring2023 #InteriorDesign #MaisonEtObjet #DecoOff #Embroidery #EscapistDesign #TexturalFabrics #OceanicDecor #ArtfulLighting #SeventiesRevival #BotanicalPrints #CoralColors
