The Best Frame TVs of 2026: How Do Samsung, Hisense, and TCL Compare?

Art frame TVs, which are designed to mimic framed artwork when not in use, offer a unique solution to the common problem of large, black TV screens dominating a living space. This article provides a comparative review of art frame TVs from leading brands like Samsung, Hisense, and TCL, evaluating their design, features, picture quality, and overall value. Samsung, the pioneer in this category, offers two main models: the standard Frame TV and the high-end Frame Pro. The standard Samsung Frame TV is highlighted as the best overall choice for most consumers. It features a matte, canvas-like screen, flush wall mount, and supports customizable magnetic bezels (sold separately). Its key differentiator is the One Connect Box, which centralizes all connections into a single, thin, transparent cable, allowing for a clean, cable-free wall aesthetic. While its picture quality is described as mediocre compared to traditional QLED TVs, with brightness peaking around 500 nits and patchy black levels due to edge-lit backlighting, its design-focused attributes make it ideal for those prioritizing aesthetics. Samsung's Art Store offers a robust digital art library, though a subscription is required for full access. The Samsung Frame Pro, positioned as the best high-end option, shares the design elements of the standard Frame TV but significantly upgrades picture quality. It utilizes Neo QLED technology with Mini LED edge-lit local dimming, achieving a peak brightness of around 1,000 nits. This results in bolder highlights for HDR content and better performance in bright rooms. A notable improvement is its wireless One Connect Box, which further enhances installation flexibility, though it still requires two power outlets. Despite its superior image performance among art TVs, it still exhibits some uneven dimming in dark scenes and is only available in larger sizes (65 inches and above). Like the standard model, bezels and Art Store subscriptions are additional costs. Hisense and TCL offer more affordable alternatives. The Hisense CanvasTV is presented as a strong competitor to the standard Samsung Frame, featuring a matte screen, slim mount, and magnetic bezel support. It includes a teak-style magnetic bezel, which is a bonus compared to Samsung's separate purchase policy. A key drawback is the absence of a One Connect Box, meaning all ports are built into the TV, necessitating cable management solutions for a clean look. While its art selection is free, it's less extensive than Samsung's paid library. Picture quality is comparable to the standard Samsung Frame, though viewing angles are more limited. The TCL NXTVISION TV, an honorable mention, is generally the most budget-friendly option. It also boasts a matte screen, flush wall mount, and includes a light wood-style magnetic bezel. However, it falls short on several features present in its competitors, such as the lack of a motion sensor and a separate connection box, leading to visible cables. Its art mode settings are limited, and it doesn't include a stand, which is sold separately. Picture quality is similar to the standard Samsung Frame and Hisense CanvasTV, though it is slightly dimmer, but it offers marginally wider viewing angles than the Hisense. It is best suited for budget-conscious buyers primarily interested in the stylish design rather than advanced art mode features or premium picture quality. Art TVs prioritize design integration over top-tier picture quality, making them less ideal for home theater enthusiasts who prioritize contrast, brightness, and black levels. While Samsung, Hisense, and TCL are current players, LG is entering the market with its Gallery TV with frame. Sound quality across all frame TVs is generally modest, recommending external soundbars for an enhanced audio experience. The article concludes by emphasizing that the choice among these models depends on a buyer's priorities regarding aesthetics, budget, and desired features.
