The 3 Best Smart Strip Lights of 2025 | Reviews by Wirecutter

This article details a comprehensive review of smart strip lights, identifying the Govee Strip Light 2 Pro as the top recommendation for its brightness, accurate colors, extensive special effects, and broad smart-home platform compatibility via Matter. The Govee 2 Pro excels in task lighting and ambiance creation, offering 60 LEDs per meter for superior brightness and color saturation. Its advanced processor ensures smooth special effects, and it can be controlled via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, with an AI feature in its app to customize lighting. The strip is also flexible, allowing for cutting and splicing, and includes robust manual controls. The TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Light Strip L930-5 is presented as a strong runner-up, praised for its affordability, ease of installation, and user-friendly app. While not as bright or feature-rich as the Govee, it delivers accurate colors, preset scenes, animations, and a practical 'Away Mode.' The article also addresses security concerns related to TP-Link, clarifying that the US-based entity operates independently and hosts data on AWS, with manufacturing moving to Vietnam. Key features include an intuitive app interface and energy consumption tracking. For budget-conscious consumers, the WiZ Smart RGBIC LED Light Strip is recommended. It offers basic controls, accurate colors, and special effects in various lengths at a significantly lower price point. Despite being less bright and advanced than the other picks, its unique and secure cable connector is highlighted. The article also touches upon the WiZ strip's lack of white LEDs and its protective polyurethane coating, which resists yellowing. Installation tips, including cautions about adhesive strength and alternatives for renters, are provided. The testing methodology involved evaluating wireless technology, color reproduction, features (scenes, special effects), brightness, length, and smart-home integration across numerous products. Compatibility with major smart-home platforms like Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, IFTTT, and Samsung SmartThings was a key consideration. Each strip was tested for scheduling, color changes, and special effects using modern smartphones and smart speakers. Long-term performance and adhesive durability are also part of the ongoing evaluation process. Additional smart strip lights are mentioned for specific needs, such as the LIFX Lightstrip Color Zones for extra brightness, the Aqara LED Strip T1 for areas with spotty Wi-Fi, and Philips Hue options for permanent kitchen fixtures. The article also lists competitors that did not meet the review's standards, citing issues such as poor color production, high cost, limited expandability, lack of smart-home support, and adhesive problems. Future considerations for testing include upcoming Philips Hue products like the OmniGlow and Essential Strip Light.
