IPIC Delray Beach Greenwall

The IPIC Delray Beach Greenwall project, completed in December 2018, features a custom GSky® Pro Wall® living wall system spanning nearly 2,000 square feet at the new IPIC Entertainment corporate headquarters and theater in Delray Beach, Florida. This innovative luxury theater offers a high-end dining and event experience within a four-level social destination, including an eight-screen, 429-seat luxury movie theater. The greenwall system was installed on the building’s 5th Avenue façade, creating a prominent architectural feature with multiple hues from its diverse plant palette. Designed by Debbie Kotalic of GSky, the living wall incorporates over 20,000 individual plants from nine varieties. Its biophilic design is characterized by sweeping, interactive curves and textured foliage, drawing the eye down the street. The Pro Wall® system utilizes one-foot-by-one-foot pre-grown planted panels of durable Rockwool, providing a highly customizable option for vertical exterior designs of varying scales. This advanced system is not only aesthetically pleasing but also incorporates a waste-reducing drip irrigation design to minimize water usage, aligning with sustainable practices. Beyond its visual appeal, the greenwall serves several functional purposes. As a significant sustainable architectural element in urban Delray Beach, it actively contributes to air purification and helps mitigate sound pollution. The installation is protected by GSky’s comprehensive maintenance program, which includes hardware coverage and a plant guarantee, ensuring its longevity and vibrant appearance. According to A. Grant Thornbrough & Associates, the landscape architects for the IPIC corporate project, the green wall quickly became a focal point for the city and its downtown area. They described it as an “artistry for the entire community to enjoy,” highlighting its shapes, colors, and textures. The building also features other distinctive design elements, such as a white web skin and a web canopy over the deck, complemented by various art installations throughout its rooms. The IPIC Delray Beach Greenwall project exemplifies a successful integration of living architecture into a commercial entertainment venue, enhancing both environmental quality and urban aesthetics. It represents a noteworthy addition to the vibrant downtown Delray Beach environment, combining luxury entertainment with sustainable design. The project details include its completion in 2018, ownership by IPIC Entertainment, its multi-use building program, and its classification as a living wall of 1,783 square feet, with 100% slope and public accessibility. Key contributors to the project include GSky Plant Systems for the greenwall system and design, A. Grant Thornbrough & Associates for landscape architecture, BNI Engineers for structural engineering, and Butters Construction for maintenance. #Greenwall #LivingArchitecture #BiophilicDesign #SustainableDesign #UrbanGreening #GSkyPlantSystems #DelrayBeach #ArchitecturalFeature #LandscapeArchitecture #Greenwall #LivingArchitecture #BiophilicDesign #SustainableDesign #UrbanGreening #GSkyPlantSystems #DelrayBeach #ArchitecturalFeature #LandscapeArchitecture
