I spent $130 to get my colors professionally analyzed and learned I've been wearing the wrong shades my entire life

The author shares their experience with professional color analysis, a process that determines which color palettes best flatter an individual based on their skin undertone, hair, and eye color. Initially, the author was introduced to the concept through a TikTok effect, which, despite multiple attempts and seeking opinions, left them confused about their 'season' – a categorization of color palettes (winter, spring, summer, or autumn) inspired by Carole Jackson's 1980s book "Color Me Beautiful." The author's personal preference for certain colors, like emerald green and black, and aversion to others, such as peach and beige, conflicted with the inconclusive results from the TikTok filter and online quizzes like Colorwise.me, which yielded varied seasonal outcomes. Frustrated with self-analysis, the author decided to consult a professional color analyst, Dina Scherer of Modnitsa Styling, opting for a virtual assessment due to the high cost of in-person sessions. For $130, the service included a virtual assessment, a 20-minute meeting, and a personalized color fan. Before the meeting, the author submitted makeup-free photos taken in natural light, including close-ups of their face, neck, ear, palm, and wrist, along with images of them wearing various colors (red, green, blue, orange, yellow). These photos were crucial for determining undertone and assessing how different colors interacted with their complexion. The author's perception of their own vein color for undertone identification also proved inaccurate. Dina Scherer's analysis revealed that the author has warm undertones, a fact that challenged the author's previous assumptions based on tanning habits (burning easily was often associated with cool tones in quizzes). Scherer explained that warm undertones are best complemented by warm colors and gold jewelry, while cool undertones are enhanced by cool colors and silver jewelry. The author's hazel eyes with gold and green flecks, along with natural red streaks in their hair, further indicated a warm profile. The analysis also considered contrast (lightness and darkness between eyes, skin, and hair) and softness versus clarity (similarities versus stark differences in features). The author was categorized as having medium-to-high contrast and significant softness. Ultimately, the author was identified as a "true autumn," which meant their best colors included soft, refined shades like brown, off-white, olive green, violet, orange, and navy, and that they should avoid stark white and black. This revelation contradicted the author's long-held beliefs and wardrobe choices, as they predominantly owned silver jewelry and black clothing. The author initially felt a sense of disbelief and regret for past fashion choices but eventually embraced the "autumn" palette, noting a tangible difference in how power colors enhanced their appearance. The color analysis influenced the author's shopping habits, leading them to incorporate more gold and warm-toned clothing and makeup. The article concludes by offering practical advice for readers to attempt color analysis at home, such as comparing warm and cool versions of colors like olive green versus emerald green, or fuchsia versus orange. It emphasizes the importance of objectivity and seeking outside opinions. A detailed breakdown of the four seasons – winter, summer, autumn, and spring – is provided, including their characteristic colors, undertones, and celebrity examples. Despite the scientific approach, the author underscores that color analysis is ultimately for personal enjoyment and encourages readers to wear what they love, regardless of their determined season, maintaining that confidence is the most important accessory. #ColorAnalysis #PersonalStyle #FashionTips #SeasonalColorTheory #WardrobeRefresh #BeautyTrends #SelfImprovement #StylingAdvice #ColorAnalysis #PersonalStyle #FashionTips #SeasonalColorTheory #WardrobeRefresh #BeautyTrends #SelfImprovement #StylingAdvice
