How to organize a bathroom — 10 ways to freshen up your routine

Organizing a bathroom can significantly streamline daily routines, transforming the space into a more functional and spa-like environment. The process begins with decluttering, as bathrooms often accumulate expired makeup, toiletries, and cleaning products. Identifying and discarding these items, along with empty bottles or broken brushes, is crucial. Following decluttering, a thorough cleaning of all surfaces and cabinets is recommended, ensuring products are wiped clean before being returned. This preparation allows for a clear assessment of storage needs and helps in selecting appropriate organizing systems and bathroom storage solutions. Effective bathroom organization involves grouping similar items. Categorizing products by type, such as toners, make-up removers, shower gels, or body lotions, helps in quickly locating desired items and maintaining neatness. For shared or family bathrooms, assigning individual baskets, cubbies, or drawers to each person fosters personalization and accommodates different organizing styles. In smaller bathrooms, investing in tall storage towers can provide dedicated shelving for each family member. Prioritizing access based on usage is another key strategy. Daily essentials should be stored in drawers or shelves closest to the sink. While keeping countertops clear is ideal, a stylish basket or a multi-section acrylic organizer can keep frequently used makeup and skincare items within easy reach. Bulky items like hair dryers, stylers, and electric razors benefit from deep drawers equipped with specialized dividers or floor baskets. Less frequently used items and backstock can be stored in less accessible locations, such as under the bathroom sink, or even relocated to other areas of the home. It is important to avoid overloading storage spaces, even if the goal is to keep unsightly essentials hidden. Overpacking cabinets can hinder easy access and lead to disarray. Professional organizers suggest lining cabinet shelves with clear plastic bins and categorizing items within them. This allows for easy removal of the entire bin to retrieve items and prevents accidental product avalanches. Similarly, organizing bathroom drawers with dividers helps prevent clutter. Removing outer packaging can save space, but caution is advised for medicine cabinets, where packaging often contains important information. Towels can contribute to both functionality and aesthetics. While clean towels can be folded and stacked, hanging used towels is more hygienic and recommended. Incorporating options for both, such as wall-mounted towel racks for drying and decorative towel ladders for a stylish display, is beneficial. For homes without linen closets, wire baskets can be used to store clean towels, allowing them to breathe and remain accessible. Neatly folding towels that are on display can enhance the hotel-inspired look. Utilizing under-sink space efficiently can be challenging due to plumbing and awkward corners. A combination of stackable containers, ergonomic pull-out racks, and Lazy Susans with built-in dividers can maximize this area. These solutions help organize products by category and keep bottles and jars stable during rotation. Mounting wire baskets or Command Hooks to the back of cabinet doors or vanities can also add extra storage for smaller items. Making walls work harder is essential for decluttering bath and shower areas. Instead of lining the bath or shower floor with products, installing towel hooks or racks on doors or adjacent walls, or using over-the-shower caddies and stick-on shelving for in-shower toiletries, frees up valuable space. For new bathroom designs, recessed shelving within shower walls or next to the bath provides dedicated, integrated storage. When open shelving is used, a balance between aesthetics and practicality is necessary. Arranging neat stacks of washcloths, groups of attractive toiletries, and decorative plants can combine storage with style. Enhancing the visual appeal of everyday items like cotton balls, Q-tips, and face pads by transferring them from original packaging into matching canisters with stylish lids allows them to double as decor. Clear containers and labeling are crucial for quick and easy access. Transparent storage allows users to see contents at a glance, and labels further aid in organization. Plastic containers are recommended for their ease of cleaning in case of spills. Adding self-stick bumpers to the bottom of organizers in drawers can prevent them from sliding when opened and closed. Keeping surfaces clear and clean is paramount for maintaining a spa-like atmosphere. Cluttered countertops detract from a calm environment and make cleaning more difficult. Intentional placement of items, such as using a Lazy Susan with high walls to group products, can help. Having a bathroom trash can nearby encourages immediate disposal of waste, preventing clutter buildup. Finally, ensuring a ready supply of toilet paper, stored in accessible yet stylish ways like baskets or freestanding units, prevents inconvenience. #BathroomOrganization #HomeDecor #StorageSolutions #DeclutteringTips #SmallSpaceOrganization #InteriorDesign #BathroomStorage #HomeImprovement #OrganizingTips #BathroomOrganization #HomeDecor #StorageSolutions #DeclutteringTips #SmallSpaceOrganization #InteriorDesign #BathroomStorage #HomeImprovement #OrganizingTips
