Govee Lyra floor lamp review – excellent wall accent lighting with neat features
The Govee Lyra floor lamp is a smart RGBICWW LED lighting solution designed to provide customizable wall accent lighting. It stands at approximately four feet tall when assembled and features an LED lightstrip encased in an aluminum frame with a rubber diffusing housing, preventing individual LED hotspots and producing a consistent glow. The light supports 16 million colors and adjustable white balance from 2200k to 6500k, with a brightness of 1500 lumens. Its RGBICWW technology allows for individual control over each LED cluster's red, green, blue, and white settings, offering extensive customization options.
Control of the lamp is primarily through a mobile app available for iOS and Android, and voice commands via smart assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The app provides various modes, including solid colors, gradients, user-defined DIY settings, and animated scenes, some of which are user-submitted in the Govee Community. A unique music mode allows the lamp to react to external sound, using either the device's built-in microphone or a mobile phone's microphone to synchronize light patterns with music. A physical remote control is also included, offering basic functionalities and featuring a magnetic holder for convenient storage on the lamp itself, though the app and voice controls often negate the need for it.
Installation of the Govee Lyra floor lamp involves connecting three metal frame pieces and securing them with screws, which results in a sturdy aluminum and high-quality plastic structure. The base is weighted and includes rubber pads for stability, preventing accidental tipping. A minor assembly issue was noted regarding misaligned screw holes for attaching the frame to the base, though it was considered a manageable flaw that didn't compromise the lamp's overall stability. After assembling the frame, the LED light strip is connected and pressed into place. Setting up the lamp with the Govee Home app is straightforward, requiring a connection to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, which is preferred for smart home devices due to its compatibility.
Once set up, the lamp functions as an indirect light source, casting its glow onto a wall. The intensity and spread of the light pattern can be adjusted by changing the lamp's proximity to the wall. The lamp supports advanced features such as segmented color control, allowing different sections of the light strip to display various colors simultaneously. Timer controls enable scheduling on/off times and wake-up/sleep routines. The Govee ecosystem allows for seamless integration with other Govee smart lighting products, enabling users to control multiple devices from a single app or through voice commands, enhancing the overall ambiance of a room. The lamp is priced at $149.99 and is available for purchase on Amazon, with the review unit provided by Govee.
