Finally, a good smart lock for sliding doors
Lockly, a company recognized for its innovative smart lock features, announced the Lockly Guard at CES 2021. This new product extends smart lock capabilities to sliding and swing-style doors, a segment previously lacking robust smart solutions due to their inability to accommodate traditional deadbolt mechanisms. The Lockly Guard addresses this gap by providing advanced security and smart home integration for these specific door types.
Key features of the Lockly Guard include a randomizing PIN pad, dubbed “PIN Genie,” which enhances security by preventing unauthorized individuals from deducing the entry code through observation of hand movements. In addition to the PIN pad, the Guard offers multiple access methods, such as fingerprint recognition, one-time use codes, voice control, and direct control via a dedicated mobile application. This multi-faceted approach to access management provides users with flexibility and enhanced security options.
The Lockly app serves as the central hub for managing the smart lock. Through the app, users can register fingerprints, generate and assign unique entry codes to different users, and monitor door activity. The app maintains a timeline of when the door was used and by whom, provided unique entry codes are assigned, offering a comprehensive security log. The lock can be controlled remotely via WiFi or locally through Bluetooth, ensuring connectivity even if internet access is interrupted.
Compatibility with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant further enhances the convenience of the Lockly Guard. Users can lock or unlock their doors using simple voice commands, with an optional PIN required for unlocking to maintain security. The system also allows users to check the lock status, confirming whether the door is secured, through voice commands. The Guard can be configured to automatically lock when the door is closed, adding another layer of convenience and peace of mind.
Visually, the Lockly Guard is designed to integrate seamlessly with various home aesthetics, offering three distinct finishes: Metallic Chrome, Satin Nickel, and Matte Black. This variety ensures that the smart lock can complement different door styles and home decor. The product is anticipated to be released in the second quarter and will be priced at $500, positioning it as a premium solution for smart door security.
