Electrolux Ultimate600 cordless vacuum review: Impressive suction and battery life, but skip it if you have pets

The Electrolux Ultimate600 cordless vacuum, a mid-priced option, offers strong suction power and respectable battery life, presenting a viable alternative to more expensive market leaders. This review focuses on the "Complete Home" version, which includes additional attachments like a soft roller floorhead and a specialized pet tool. The vacuum's design prioritizes ease of use, featuring a lightweight build at under 6 pounds and a simple two-button interface for power and suction level adjustments. It includes a 0.6-liter dustbin and a five-stage filtration system, though it notably lacks a HEPA filter. Testing involved approximately three weeks of daily cleaning in a 2,000-square-foot home with two large dogs, alongside structured tests to evaluate debris pickup. The Ultimate600 demonstrated excellent cleaning performance across various surfaces, including carpeting, hardwood floors, and linoleum, effectively managing pet hair and dirt. Its performance in suction tests was consistently strong, often achieving 100% debris pickup in one or two passes. The standard PowerPro Bristle Nozzle proved effective on carpeting, while the PowerPro Hard Floor Nozzle, with its soft, fluffy brush, excelled at capturing fine particles like flour and coffee grinds on hard floors, outperforming several higher-priced cordless vacuums. Battery life is moderate, lasting 24 minutes on a medium suction setting during testing, slightly less than the advertised 40 minutes on low. A full recharge takes 4.5 hours. The dustbin is easy to empty with an eject button or by opening a lever at the bottom of the canister. Maintenance involves periodically cutting tangled hair from the brushrolls and washing the filter every six months, with replacements needed annually, expected to cost around $20 for a pack of three. However, there are several drawbacks. The floorheads are somewhat difficult to detach, and the brushrolls are prone to hair entanglement, a significant issue for households with long-haired pets. The vacuum's docking station does not offer automatic charging, requiring manual plugin. Furthermore, the absence of a HEPA filter means it may not be suitable for individuals seeking advanced allergen removal. For those with pets, alternatives such as the Shark Stratos Cordless are recommended due to its no-tangle brushroll design. The Shark Stratos also features a compact, foldable design for convenient storage. For users desiring more advanced features, the LG CordZero All-in-One offers ergonomic design, strong suction, a self-emptying dock, and hidden storage for accessories, including a spare battery. Despite these alternatives, the Electrolux Ultimate600 is considered a robust and reasonably priced option for general household cleaning, particularly effective with the Complete Home version's additional attachments, which enhance its versatility and cleaning power.
