Create A Chic Light-Up Thanksgiving Centerpiece Using Affordable Dollar Tree Materials
As autumn progresses and the focus often shifts to Halloween, there's an opportunity to embrace other aspects of the fall season, particularly Thanksgiving. Preparing a home to host Thanksgiving often includes thoughtful decor, and creating stylish centerpieces doesn't require a significant budget. This DIY project outlines how to construct a light-up Thanksgiving centerpiece using inexpensive materials, primarily sourced from Dollar Tree or other low-cost craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Walmart.
The core concept involves two cylindrical vases of differing sizes: a wider outer vase and a narrower inner vase designed to nest within it. Essential materials include string lights, preferably battery-powered fairy lights, and various fall-themed foliage. Dollar Tree typically stocks suitable LED string lights and a range of faux flowers and foliage, such as fall burlap Gerber daisies. The smaller vase, wrapped or filled with string lights, is positioned inside the larger vase. The space between the two vases is then filled with autumnal elements, and flowers are placed in the smaller, inner vase. This arrangement allows light to emanate from the center of the display, creating an eye-catching focal point.
The initial step in this DIY involves selecting appropriate fall foliage. This can be expanded to include small pumpkins, wheat, or other seasonal items to enhance the bouquet. Additionally, separate filling materials are needed for the gap between the vases. Options for this layer include pine cones, twigs, acorns, or leaves, chosen to complement the overall theme. It's important to ensure these materials allow some light to filter through from behind, enhancing the illuminating effect.
For the vases, Dollar Tree offers cylindrical options, such as an 8 ½-inch tall and 3 ½-inch wide clear glass cylinder vase, which works well for the inner component. This can be placed inside a wider glass vase, approximately 6 to 7 inches, leaving a one-inch gap for the chosen filling materials. For example, Hobby Lobby provides a 6-inch wide glass cylinder vase.
Assembly begins by attaching the string lights to the outside bottom of the smaller vase. The lights are then wrapped upwards around the vase, ensuring enough slack is left to position the battery pack inside the vase for easy access. Alternatively, the string lights can be loosely bundled and placed directly into the smaller vase. Once the lights are in place, the smaller vase is centered within the larger vase. The space between the two vases is then filled with the selected foliage, and the chosen flowers are arranged in the smaller, inner vase. This simple process yields a decorative centerpiece that can elevate Thanksgiving decor and is adaptable to other seasons by changing the colors and decorations.
