IKEA's Latest Throwback Furniture Is Selling Out Everywhere—Here's What You Can Still Buy
IKEA has launched the sixth and final edition of its Nytillverkad collection, celebrating its 80th anniversary by reissuing iconic vintage pieces from its archives. This collection, which became an instant hit upon its initial debut last April, features a range of furniture and home decor items from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, reimagined with vibrant colors and modern updates. Karin Gustavsson, creative leader of the Nytillverkad collection, emphasized that the items are designed to evoke joy and make a statement, often with customizable elements.
Among the standout pieces in this latest release is the Dyvlinge Chair, originally known as the Mila Chair when it first appeared in 1967. This plush swivel lounger, once marketed as an "anti-stress armchair," is renowned for its comfort and distinctive retro design. It is now available in orange, green, and black, making it a versatile addition to various interior styles.
Another featured item is the Mofalla chair, first introduced in 1978. This foldable chair is ideal for smaller spaces and for entertaining guests, thanks to its stylish chrome-plated legs and thick canvas fabric. Its practical yet attractive design makes it suitable for everyday use and special occasions.
The Byakorre shelving unit, initially released in 1985 as 'Guide', offers customization through its reversible shelves, which are white on one side and gray on the other. The shelf edges come in different colors like blue, green, yellow, and red, allowing users to personalize their storage solutions. This unit has proven highly popular, quickly selling out online.
The collection also includes the Guttane side and coffee tables, first released in 1963 as the Novette benches. These midcentury-inspired tables feature solid oak legs and oak veneer tops. Their timeless and functional design is highlighted by a small ledge that prevents items from slipping off, adding practicality to their elegant aesthetic.
Beyond larger furniture, the Nytillverkad collection incorporates playful decor pieces such as the voluminous Källarhals Vase, originally named Snurra, available in yellow and orange. The Klippbräcka print, initially designed for children's bedding in 1997 with a popcorn-inspired pattern by Anna Efverlund, is reissued in a sophisticated black and white version for bed linens, pre-cut fabrics, and cushion covers. Many of these reissued vintage bestsellers have been selling out quickly, reflecting their appeal and potential future value. The article also provides alternatives from other brands for items that are no longer available.
