2018 Swift Atlantique static caravan review
This blog post reviews the 2018 Swift Atlantique static caravan, focusing on its features, design, and suitability for first-time buyers. The Atlantique range, introduced in 2017, is available in four models, with the 28ft x 12ft two-bedroom version being the subject of this review. The exterior construction features bonded sandwich walls, which are clad in either aluminium or Canexcel, with options for woodgrain textured sandy beige or environmental green finishes. The roof utilizes prefabricated trusses with black steel pantiles and distinctive molded GRP bargeboards, including an overhang and inset LED downlights for front deck illumination.
The front of the caravan includes a large sliding patio door and twin top-opening hopper style windows to maximize natural light in the lounge; an optional extra of French-style doors was present in the reviewed model. All windows are uPVC with security locks, and the caravan benefits from Thermaglas double-glazing. The Atlantique is built on a Fusion fully galvanized chassis with a 10-year warranty. Insulation is comprehensive, with 50mm in the floor, 90mm in the roof, and 30mm in the walls, complemented by lagged pipework to prevent frost damage and a central heating system powered by a gas combi-boiler.
The interior design of the lounge emphasizes brightness and airiness, enhanced by a full-height pitched ceiling and LED downlights. A combination unit serves as a focal point, with optional space for an electric fire, shelves, a mirror, and a long shelf for a flat-panel TV. The unit also features a panel designed to resemble reclaimed, bleached planks, contributing to a ‘coastal feel’. An L-shaped sofa in beige and blue, which includes a pull-out sofa bed, along with a free-standing coffee table, defines the seating area. Curtains are deep blue, fully lined, and hung on chromed rods. While a laminated floor is standard, a fully fitted carpet with underlay is an optional extra, indicating a strategic choice to maintain an attractive price point.
The kitchen area, separated from the lounge by the sofa, is a C-shaped layout finished in light oak laminate. It comes equipped with a glass-fronted oven and grill, a stainless steel cooker hood with an external extractor, a four-burner gas hob with a glass splashback, and a stainless steel sink with a mixer tap. Space is provided for an under-counter fridge and a microwave in the wall units. The kitchen features 30mm white worktops and ample storage cabinets. The dining area includes two upholstered bench seats that match the lounge sofa, promoting design continuity.
Moving to the sleeping quarters, a corridor with coat hooks leads to the shower room and bedrooms. The shower room contains a large cubicle with a thermostatic shower, a dual-flush toilet positioned for space efficiency, and a pedestal handbasin. A low-slung radiator-cum-towel rack and a mirrored shelf are also present. Larger models offer en-suite facilities. The twin bedroom, though compact, includes two Duvalay-mattressed beds, a low table, wall-mounted cabinets, and an opening window. A half-size wardrobe offers hanging space. The master double bedroom, located at the rear, features a centrally placed bed with a decorative panel headboard, shelves, cupboards, bedside cabinets, and reading lamps. The bed has a Duvalay mattress and accessible under-bed storage. A large window provides light and ventilation. Matching soft furnishings maintain the caravan's aesthetic. A half-height wardrobe and a vanity shelf with a mirror, power socket, lighting, and a small stool complete the master bedroom. The bedrooms are carpeted in a mid-brown Berber style.
In conclusion, the Swift Atlantique range is positioned as an appealing option for first-time buyers or those with budget considerations, offering a bright and contemporary design. The pricing strategy, however, results in some basic amenities like a fridge, microwave, and lounge carpet being offered as optional extras. The caravan’s key positive attributes are its bright and airy 'coastal' design, spacious lounge, and comfortable master bedroom. Areas for improvement include the absence of a shaver socket in the bathroom and the omission of a microwave and simple fridge as standard inclusions.
