BLINK breathes new life into Maldives legend – Huvafen Fushi

Huvafen Fushi, a renowned resort in the Maldives' North Male Atoll, has undergone a complete interior refresh led by BLINK, an acclaimed design firm. The project aimed to update the resort's 44 overwater and beach bungalow dwellings while preserving its core identity of sophisticated island chic and minimizing disruption to its loyal clientele. Clint Nagata, founder and creative partner at BLINK, emphasized a 'naturally enchanting' mantra for the redesign, prioritizing handmade natural materials and a nature-inspired color palette to create a crafted sense of sophistication. BLINK's design philosophy involved an in-depth exploration of local customs, culture, arts, and crafts, which for Huvafen Fushi, translated into the study of local textiles, building materials, and weaving techniques. This research informed a new vision of 'sophisticated atoll chic,' ensuring the design complemented the natural beauty of the turquoise waters, azure sky, and white sands of North Male Atoll rather than competing with it. Nagata highlighted the importance of balance in this delicate refresh, focusing on establishing a natural focal point within each villa and the subtle interplay of various design elements. The resort's iconic overwater bungalows, palm-fringed beach villas, and secluded overwater jetties are central to its appeal. The refresh sought to recapture the original magic of the resort's inception while elevating the design with surprising details and spaces that evoke wonder and tranquility. Interior feature walls were adorned with handmade woven abaca fiber wallcoverings and ROA natural wallpapers from Java, Indonesia, showcasing intricate and ambitious weaving skills while maintaining natural beauty. Woven rattan material was used for bedheads, and Jim Thompson silks in shades of green provided a restrained color accent for pillows. The design extended to other furniture pieces, incorporating rattan, timber, and woven themes in chairs and sofas. Timber-paneled ceilings and bay windows further enhanced the refined island vibe. Bathrooms were designed as spaces for relaxation, featuring clean lines, restrained tones, playful textures, and oversized plunge stone bathtubs. The overall design strategy ensured that the refreshed Huvafen Fushi maintained its legendary status as an enchanting hideaway, seamlessly blending modern luxury with its natural Maldivian surroundings. #MaldivesResort #HotelDesign #InteriorRefresh #LuxuryHospitality #BlinkDesign #IslandChic #SustainableMaterials #ArchitecturalDesign #ResortRefurbishment #MaldivesResort #HotelDesign #InteriorRefresh #LuxuryHospitality #BlinkDesign #IslandChic #SustainableMaterials #ArchitecturalDesign #ResortRefurbishment
