Giving thanks in style

Thanksgiving, a significant American holiday, often finds itself overshadowed by Halloween and the festive preparations for Christmas. However, this article delves into various strategies to adorn homes for Thanksgiving, emphasizing the beauty of harvest-themed decorations that can seamlessly transition through the holiday season. Debra Steilen, a senior editor for BHG.com, suggests incorporating natural elements like fall leaves as dinner-table centerpieces. These can be freshly cut or dried and pressed for preservation. The use of fall-colored chargers under dinner plates can elevate ordinary dishes, while attaching a perfect pine cone with a satin ribbon to the back of each chair adds a personalized touch for guests. Interior designer Libby Langdon from HGTV's "Small Space, Big Style" advocates for basic, adaptable arrangements that can evolve from Thanksgiving through New Year's Day. She recommends starting with clear glass cylindrical vases of varying heights, placing a pillar candle in the center, and filling the surrounding space with seasonal items such as acorns, pine cones, cranberries, small crab apples, or baby artichokes. As Christmas approaches, these fillers can be swapped for silver balls or other ornaments. Langdon also suggests using clear glass vases or bowls filled with tangerines or baby pears for a decorative touch. The article highlights white pumpkins as a durable and versatile alternative to traditional orange pumpkins. Smaller white pumpkins can serve as table centerpieces, while larger ones can be arranged with candles on a fireplace mantel to create a warm glow. Both designers stress the importance of avoiding overly elaborate decorations, focusing instead on creating an inviting atmosphere that prioritizes shared time with loved ones over excessive fuss. The article provides a detailed list of decor ideas. These include using pine cones as place card holders, filling low glass or silver bowls with natural elements like baby artichokes and polished stones, and creating artichoke candles by hollowing out artichokes to nestle votive candles. Another creative idea involves making “thankful” stone place cards where guests can write what they are grateful for. Dressing up plain pillar candles with ribbons and wheat sprigs, or crafting a leaf garland using collected fall leaves and chocolate-brown or dark green ribbon, are also suggested. For an unusual vase, one can hollow out a white pumpkin and insert a small vase for flowers. Finally, for a natural fall runner centerpiece, the article recommends using long narrow trays lined with greenery, topped with pomegranates, pears, pine cones, pillar candles, nuts, acorns, and kumquats. These ideas offer practical and aesthetically pleasing ways to celebrate the harvest season and Thanksgiving with style and simplicity. #ThanksgivingDecorations #HomeDecor #HolidayDecor #FallDecor #TableCenterpieces #DIYDecor #SeasonalDesign #InteriorDesign #ThanksgivingDecorations #HomeDecor #HolidayDecor #FallDecor #TableCenterpieces #DIYDecor #SeasonalDesign #InteriorDesign
