Philips Hue Wireless Dimming Kit review: Control your Hue LED lights even when you don’t have your smartphone

The Philips Hue Wireless Dimming Kit addresses a common issue for users of Philips Hue connected LED light bulbs: the reliance on a smartphone for control. This kit offers a convenient alternative, allowing users to manage their smart lights even when their smartphone is not readily available. The kit includes a dimmer switch and a white LED bulb, providing an out-of-the-box solution that requires minimal configuration. Once the bulb is screwed in and the battery tab removed from the remote, the system is operational. The dimmer switch itself is designed for flexibility. It can be mounted on a wall using adhesive strips or screws, offering a permanent fixture for light control. Alternatively, the magnetic remote can be detached from its wall mount and used as a handheld device, providing comfort and accessibility, especially for users who prefer to control lights from their recliner. This feature is particularly useful for rooms that lack a traditional wall switch for lamps plugged into wall outlets, solving a practical problem often encountered in older homes. The included white LED bulb emits warm white light at 2700K with 800 lumens of brightness, which is comparable to a 60-watt incandescent bulb. Despite its bright output, the Hue bulb consumes only 9.5 watts of electricity and is estimated to last for approximately 22.8 years based on three hours of daily use, highlighting its energy efficiency and longevity. The dimmer switch provides smooth dimming and brightening capabilities, and the lights retain their last brightness setting when turned off and on again. One of the kit's strengths is its expandability. The dimmer can be paired with up to nine additional Philips Hue bulbs, allowing users to control multiple lights with a single switch. However, a key limitation is that all bulbs linked to a single dimmer will operate in unison, meaning they will all turn on/off or dim/brighten simultaneously. For independent control of lights or for managing lights in different rooms, users would need to acquire a separate dimmer and bulb for each desired control group. For more advanced functionality, integrating the Philips Hue bridge is essential. The bridge enables individual or group control of lights via a smartphone or tablet app. Furthermore, by connecting the bridge to a router, users can set schedules and manage their lighting remotely from any location with internet access. The Philips Hue Wireless Dimming Kit, including the dimmer switch and one white LED bulb, is priced at $40. Additional bulbs are available for $20 each, and the dimmer switch can be purchased separately for $25. #PhilipsHue #SmartLighting #WirelessDimming #LEDLighting #SmartHome #HomeAutomation #EnergyEfficiency #TechReview #PhilipsHue #SmartLighting #WirelessDimming #LEDLighting #SmartHome #HomeAutomation #EnergyEfficiency #TechReview
